Horse Portrait Gilcee' Print, Daily Painting, Domestic Animal Painting by Carol Schiff, Sale!

Don't you just love horses?  I do.  They are such beautiful, elegant horses.  So strong yet they have these delicate little ankles.

The original painting has sold, but today, I am offering prints for sale at 8x10" and 11x14".  There is a tiny cropping problem on the lower left of these prints(not visible in this image),,,,nothing that will show when it is framed, but it is there.  So, I have priced these two prints with a $10.00 discount.

If you follow the link, under the image, you will find the original Etsy listing including an image of the lower left corner.

The print is on textured archival watercolor paper and perfect other than this tiny issue.

Abstract Seascape, "Sunset" by Carol Schiff, 11x14 Acrylic

Living next to the sea, I try to visit the beach at daybreak as often as possible.  Of course, this means starting my day a little earlier than usual.

$135. + 15

To make my life a little easier, I decided to do  a sunset, a memory of my visits on the west coast of Florida.

I added some texture to the canvas and attacked with my acrylics.  Acrylics are always risky for me.  I don't use them often enough to feel in control.  I think, my goal for 2013 will be to use them on a more regular basis and see where they may take me.  I enjoy abstract and mixed media and acrylics are the media of choice for these works.

I would love to hear any advise you wish to share on acrylics.

Flower Painting | Floral Still Life | Small Oil Painting | Rhododendron by Carol Schiff 6x8 Oil

Still painting flowers!  Hope you have not tired of them yet.  I will try to break up the flower posts with other subject matter, just to keep you awake.

$95 + 6.50

This petite bouquet of rhododendron blossoms grew next to my house in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  I snipped a few and placed them in a jelly jar on my kitchen window sill.  I love the effect of the darkened flowers with the bright light flowing in behind them.

My goal with these little works is to keep strong basic shapes and let the viewer's eye fill in missing pieces.  As you can see from this photo, the paint is thick and the strokes are few.

Happy Morning to you!

Plein Air Landscape, 6x8, Oil SOLD

I don't often paint out of the studio, but recently I spent a week in North Carolina with my paint group, Pieces of Eight.  We didn't paint as much as we usually do on our retreats, but we did get a few days in.

We went to a beautiful location, Grandfather Vineyard, near Boone, and painted on the grounds.  Tables and chairs we set up on the bank of the stream and customers would bring their bottles of wine and glasses and enjoy an hour or two.

It was a beautiful, sunny fall day and we enjoyed our painting session.  When we had put our brushes away, we purchased a few bottles of wine and enjoyed a lively art discussion in this wonderful location.  I took lots of photos and have several from Grandfather Vineyards that I plan to paint soon.

Abstract Seascape, Daily Painting, Abstract Mxed Media "Sea Rhythm" 6x8" SOLD

The sea is so fascinating to me.  I love the thought of all the life under the surface of the sea....movement as the waves are pulled to the shore, tiny sea creatures burrowing into the sand..........

SOLD

Jelly fish that look like man-made objects, balloons, or aliens...........

So many interesting and exciting things going on that we are totally unaware of.  All we see is the beautiful surface of the sea.

This piece is inspired by that thought.  The paint is an example of pouring technique, along with texture and metallic elements.  Although the metallic has photographed in a warm color, it is actually silver.  Much experimenting going on in my studio these days. Feel free to pin it!

The Methuselah Date Palm, Oil of Oldest Date Palm by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

"The Methuselah Date Palm" has an amazing story. An archeologist found date palm seeds on Masada in Israel. They were carbon dated to be over 2,000 years old. After a soaking in growth hormones, a seed sprouted, grew into a tree and flowered in 2011. Named The Methuselah after the longest lived character in the Bible, it's the only living Judean date palm, which has been extinct for 1800 years. It's the oldest known tree to successfully germinate. — at CityArts Factory in Downtown Orlando, 6x6 framed oil, $250.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Dog Painting, Sallie" by Carol Schiff 8x8 Pet Portrait

Years ago, when I first started selling paintings, I did a lot of pet portraits.  It was both a good and bad thing.  Everybody loves their pet, so usually, they were extremely excited to get their painting.  The bad thing was I had to paint from their photographs, which were usually terrible!

I stopped doing pet portraits on a regular basis, but how could I resist this little girl?

I couldn't!  Every once in a while, I find a face I just have to paint. Usually it is furry.

If you want me to paint your pet, send me your digital file, but make it a good one, please!

Happy day to you!

Wildlife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, "Gray Squirrel" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

Have you ever tried to photograph wildlife?  I have, and consider it an exercise in frustration.  Many blurred images later, my friend and photographer, Ted Fuhrer, offered me the use of his images.  Thanks so much, Ted.

This little guy looks very inquisitive and ready to bolt at the least movement.

I enjoyed experimenting with painting his fur and directing the viewer's eye.  The animal is much the same color as the background in this scene.

I put it in one of my black frames.  They seem to work perfectly for just about any painting.

Happy day to you!

OCEAN SUNRISE, 6X8, OIL

Some days it is really hard to find something to paint.  It is always fast or famine with me and today was a famine day.  I decided to do a little seascape as I have not painted one for months.  In fact, I painted two of them today, so tomorrow I will post the second piece.

Flower Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Floral Still Life, Hydrangea Painting, HYDRANGEA AND MUG, 8X8", PALETTE KNIFE PAINTING, SOLD

SOLD

I picked these hydrangea from my garden last month and was compelled to paint them.  Hydrangea are probably my very favorite flowers and I love the summer months when my home is surrounded with their massive blooms.

I wanted to keep the painting as simple as the pitcher and mug.

For me, keeping it simple usually means "palette knife".

Enjoy your day!

The Olive Grove, Oil Painting of Olive Trees by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

"The Olive Grove" Olives have been cultivated for at least 5,000 years in the Mediterranean region. Did you know that olives grow in Florida, too? Groves are around Ocala and could be the next great crop from this area. — at CityArts Factory. 6 x 6 framed oil, $250, for the Reviving the Ancients art show in Downtown Orlando.

Green Grapes, 8x10 Oil Painting on Canvas Panel by Carmen Beecher

So that's the best title I could come up with? I must be really tired. I took this photo at an artists' retreat with the Pieces of 8 painting group. We were in Boone, North Carolina, painting at the beautiful Grandfather vineyard. We painted en plein aire, then took photos for future use. It was a wonderful day, hosted by Cindy Michaud. The part of those trips where we sit by the side of a stream and paint--I love that. There's nothing like a trickling stream to lower the blood pressure.

Daily Abstract Painting, "Feeling My Way", 12x12"

Moving into a new area of work is always both exciting and frustrating.  When I sit down to try an abstract, I feel like I am jumping off a cliff.

On this piece I used acrylics, oils and ink.  I also included some cheesecloth for texture.

I am finding that although abstract looks very simple, and free, it requires much planning.

Have a great weekend and thank you for viewing.

1589 Starburst Clerodendrum Plein Air Alla Prima

I did this today at Heathcote Botanical gardens here in Ft. Pierce.  I have been working on a giant commission painting at home lately.  So I wanted to do a little one today, fast and loose, this one is 5 x 7 inches much different than what I have been working on the last 3 or 4 months!  Its oil on masonite, lots of texture. $100.

"Wild Palms"Contemporary by Florida Abstract Artist Fay Kelley
