Last week I had the opportunity to work with another talented artist in my 3 Day Private Abstract Painting Workshop. I always like to start the session by demonstrating my painting techniques. I warn my students ahead of time that because I really don't start off with a definite idea in mind, my painting may not turn out. They've seen me struggle as I bring a painting into completion and every once in a while, I fail. But, I never give up. There's always some gesso handy to cover up the "mess" and start over. I remind my students that there are no mistakes, just happy accidents!
Night Song is the painting I did as a demo last week. The colors in this work are vibrant and are accented with metallic gold paint. My goal was to demonstrate layering techniques and the use of water to create visual texture.

Pineapple Still Life Painting, Best Deal, 14x18" Painting with Frame, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting
Since moving (and downsizing) I'm trying to squeeze into a much small studio, with almost no storage space.

My solution......start a new section on my Etsy store, entitled "Best Deal". I plan to feature a specific artwork, at a great price, and hopefully, my inventory will become more manageable.
Today, I am featuring this pineapple and mango oil painting, in a custom frame. The piece is framed to 19x23". The painting shows the fruit sitting on glass, and may be purchased with or without the frame.
Marketing, in my opinion, is one of the hardest parts of being an artist. I don't know any artists who enjoy this part of the game. I will let you know how this idea works for me.

Have not done a still life, or a palette knife painting for a while, so this one was in my comfort zone.

| SOLD I naturally tend to lean towards cool colors, so I had fun working all my favorite color relationships. |
This scene is a repaint, from years ago. I couldn't find the original photograph, but I did have a photo of the first painting, so I used that as a guide. The first painting was done with a brush, which is why I decided to mix it up a little, by using a palette knife this time around.

Last fall, we took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a crisp, sunny day and my camera was busy clicking away.

| SOLD It's hard to go wrong with a blue and yellow painting.....it just shouts "Cheerful". The background was painted with a brush, but I used a palette knife on the flowers and grasses. That's when it started to be really fun!
I feel like I was able to capture the feel of the day......I hope it made you smile!

I enjoy traveling to the tropics and Costa Rica has been a favorite destination for over 25 years. I am fascinated by the odd shaped flowers and dazzling colors. In this painting I decided to paint the Lobster Claw Heliconia with the Mosaic Butterfly resting on it. I really liked the neutral butterfly with the flaming red orange colors of the flower.

These guys are not uncommon sights in Florida. Sometimes you see them snoozing in the sun next to a road. Golfer's here usually have a scary encounter to tell.
This was my third attempt to paint this fellow. I had difficulty getting the drawing correct, as well as the color. The image I worked from was not exciting. Eventually, I think I worked it out.

This week I had the pleasure of having another talented artist attend my 3 Day Private Abstract Painting Workshop. I'm always amazed at how each student approaches the difficult task of creating an abstract painting "out of thin air". Taking a set of colors, a blank canvas and bringing everything to a successful finish is not easy. But, I love seeing how every student takes those very basic elements and ends up with a successful painting. I provide the basic instruction on the use of the materials, and with my guidance, they push themselves beyond what they thought they could accomplish.

This watercolor is of an "unknown" Beetle. I believe it is a "Flower" Beetle due to its shape. What really attracted me to it was the brilliant iridescent red and orange colors. It was challenging and fun to paint.
