Wild Horses Roaming Free by Sharon Guy
Roaming Appaloosas, Oil on canvas, 26 in. x 18 in.
This playful painting is about wild horses and open spaces where they can roam freely. Sometimes I like to paint scenes from the southwest and west, where the wild horses live. Our American wild horses are in danger because the BLM has been removing them and placing them in holding pens for years now, in spite of public outcry against their policies. Now there are less viable breeding populations. Many horses and foals have been injured or even died while being rounded up and chased for a long distance by helicopter to get them in the pens. Meanwhile, more and more public land gets used for cattle ranching. When there are competing interests for resources, the wildlife and the environment often suffer.
