I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique. It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room. I cannot help but smile each time I look at it. The canvas was a mistake. I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it. What could I possibly do with it? Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect! Have a fantastic day!

Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.

Floral Still Life on Linen, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Mary's Vase" 9x12" Oil
I did this painting a few weeks ago with my paint group, Pieces of Eight. Mary brought in a set up of fresh flowers and her favorite vase.
I wanted to keep it free and loose, so I started painting with both and palette knife and a brush. I was painting on a linen covered panel, and left much of the background unpainted for added texture and interest.
I have never seen a mum in this colors before, white petals and a purpley blue center. This is where the knife action came in.
Thank you Mary, for bring these beautiful fresh flowers and thank you to all who are reading my blog today.

Landscape Tree Painting, Palette Knife Painting, "BFF" Carol Schiff Studio, 12x16" Oil
I just returned from a few weeks in the mountains of western North Carolina. We have an October trip planned, to take in the beautiful fall colors, which I am really anticipating. Until then, I will have to be satisfied with our Florida type of tree. They have a beauty of their own....not really big leaves or bright colors, but graceful palms and huge live oaks draped in Spanish moss and with limbs that seem to be a mile long.

I painted this with a palette knife and I used a technique I call "color weaving". It gives me lots of texture and I can get really subtle color changes. I have a nice wide molding in a dark wood tone that I will use to frame this one. I think it will make it pop off the wall! I hope to get many photos of fall color in the mountains next month....it's my favorite time of the year! |
