I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique. It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room. I cannot help but smile each time I look at it. The canvas was a mistake. I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it. What could I possibly do with it? Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect! Have a fantastic day!

Small Seascape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Beach Music" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil
Living close to the sea, it is no surprise that I paint a lot of seascapes. The sea and mountains have one thing in common....they never look the same from day to day or even minute to minute. Fascinating and beautiful!
Life gets busy and sometimes I don't visit the beach for months at a time. When I finally get there, it is like visiting an old friend. I always vow to get back more often.

Dog Portrait, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 16x20x1.5 Animal Painting, SOLD
Today, I am posting a commission painting. I find that doing a commission is a whole different ball game. Do you agree?
The client was asking for three paintings of his two dogs. One of each, and one of both animals.

| detail SOLD This is the first painting. I always second guessing myself when I work on a commission. Does the client want this, or do that want that. Is it too dull for them, or too bright, or too much detail, or not enough. It is hard guessing what a perfect stranger would like! Add to that the dreaded deadline! In this case, I had only a short time to complete the artwork, due to my schedule. What if I failed and produce a suitable painting in the allotted time? While commissions are stressful for me, I always welcome them.....I just have to remeber the sense of accomplishment I have, when the project is accepted by the client. I believe a little stretch is good for everyone, especially us artists Thanks for reading my blog today......and keep painting! |

Expressionist Sunset Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 9x12" Oil on Canvas Seascape
Well probably your 5 yr old kid could do this....right? Maybe that is why I enjoy it so much.
I may be a slow learner, because it took me many years to get to this point. Mama never said I was the sharpest knife in the drawer.
All kidding aside, I really love the freedom of this piece. Instead of leaving the studio feeling like I have been fighting for hours, I felt very relaxed, happy and ready to sail through the day. I think I need to do this more often!
Thanks for reading my blog today.

Dream of Days Gone By
12"x12"x1.5"
Collage on Cradled Panel
Like
many artists, I think I may be a hoarder of anything that might be used
in my artwork. Over the years I've managed to collect an entire flat
file filled with all sorts of colored papers, rice papers and other bits
and pieces of stuff that most people would cast aside. I also have a
few bins of other materials like old stamps, yellowed pages from old
books, old patterns, maps, etc. When we were packing to move from Texas
to Florida, I actually thought about tossing everything out and
starting from scratch again. But then I got to thinking that someday I
might regret that decision.
My
dear hubby likes to do a little woodworking from time to time and I
convinced him to build some cradled panels for my artwork. He went
online and found a couple of Youtube videos that gave him some direction
on how to construct them. Of course, that meant we needed a chop saw
to make the mitered corners. After a quick search on Craigs List, we
found one for sale. I think I hear the saw going right now!

Dream of Days Gone By
is a mixed media collage on a cradled wood panel. It measures 12" x
12". The 1.75" sides are painted in a shimmery black/gray micaceous
iron oxide. It is wired and ready to hang. The signature is on the
side and it is dated and signed on the back. A clear acrylic gloss
varnish has been applied to protect the beauty of the artwork.
A signed Certificate of Authenticity is included.
