Florida citrus was shipped in plain wooden crates until 1904 when Florida growers created distinctive labels pasted on the ends of the crates. These had art depicting Florida's exotic flowers, birds and animals. Gift crates had stenciled "from Florida", guaranteeing these were Florida oranges!
