I like all kinds of flowers, but bromeliads are one of my favorites. Their varities are endless and they usually thrive with little or no help....just what I need!
Thank you for reading my blog today.

Roadside Floral, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 9x12" Oil on Canvas
So that is the inspiration for this painting, as I gathered these blooms from the ditches and easements along the country roads.
I plopped them in a favorite piece of pottery and started painting.

Floral Landscape, Floral Still Life Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Echinacea 11x14" Oil
I found this charming scene in Brevard North Carolina. I couldn't resist taking a photo to paint from. As much as I would have liked to paint it plein aire, the opportunity was not there.
I love the bits of bright colors in purples, blues and greens.

Hydrangea Still Life Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Flower Painting, 8x10" Original Oil Painting, SOLD
Last winter, I spent three months on the east coast of Florida. It involved many walks on the beach, and my painting was full of seagulls, and seascapes.
I also painted this hydrangea still life. I hope you like it.

Flower Still Life, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on Panel, Palette Knife Painting
Today I painted a flower.
| Purchase Here I have been struggling with my painting, for a full year now. I have never been able to establish a routine in the studio, since we packed our bags, and moved to the mountains. I thought I was over painting. I found no joy in it. In fact, everything I struggled to paint, seemed more like a duty and I found it frustrating. But now, we have been back at the beach for three months. It took awhile. First the holidays got in the way, but after the first of the year, I started to regain my love of spending my days in the studio. Maybe it was the inspiration of the long walks on the beach, or maybe it was being back with my art buddies again. Whatever..........I am thrilled and anxious to smear paint across canvas again! |
It is such a JOY!!!

Floral Still Life Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Pink Glory", 6x8" Oil on Panel
I have been doing a few palette knife paintings, recently.
I think, I could be a much better artist, if I were to limit my techniques and subject matter to one type, but I also think that would be rather boring!
Variety of the spice of life......right?
I am fortunate and do not have to financially support myself, with my art, so I can indulge myself, in this way. Others are not. Still others do not have the desire to jump around, but are focused totally on one technique or subject.
Is there a right or wrong?
Thanks for viewing my art today.

Hydrangea and Rose Still Life, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Knife Painting, 6x8" Oil
It has been awhile, since I did a palette knife painting....and I miss it!

Flower Painting | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | White Bird by Carol Schiff | 8x10x1.5" Original Oil
With this flower painting, I wanted to celebrate the beautiful, but not so well recognized, White Bird of Paradise. If you live in the sub-tropical areas of the world, you probably see orange Bird of Paradise every day, but the white variety is not as plentiful.
The interesting thing is that although the flowers are similar excluding color, the plant and leaves are quite different.

This variety grows on a much taller plant. I have one over 12 feet tall. The orange plant is lower to the ground and more bush like.

Abstract Floral Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, "It's Finally Spring", 6x8" Oil on panel
I know, I know, it's almost summer! But in Western North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, spring has been a little slow.
This little painting gives me hope.
Enjoy your day!

Coral Rose Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Impressionist art
I recently took a 3 day workshop from my favorite instructor, Elio Comacho, where we painted fresh flowers every day.
Since I usually paint from the computer monitor, it is always a challenge to paint from life. I do enjoy it, but, I know myself well enough to know that I need the advantage of having an image available whenever I want it.
When I paint flowers on my monitor, I tend to get tighter. That does bother me.
Both of these were painted using my monitor. I am not unhappy, but I hope to see improvement down the road.
Hope you have a rosy day!
