"Crashing In" by Sally Shisler

"Crashing In" (4x4") - 201212
This was SO much fun!  You'll note that the bright white is actually from some glare off the outdoor light source (the sun).  It hits where the paint has the most depth, which is usually a challenge to get around when photographing the paintings. (There is a way around this).  But with this scene, the sparkles show me exactly where I can go back in and place pure white paint to suggest the waves even more effectively.

"Sandcastles & Sunshine" by Sally Shisler

"Sandcastles & Sunshine"

(4x4") - 201211
Bright hot sunshine - blinding even; hopefully.  In painting, as in life, everything is relative.  Nothing exists without at least one counterpart. Thank God for that.  And yet I frequently find myself with tunnel vision, forgetting this basic concept.  I must practice the habit of disengaging from a 'problem' at the very moment I become aware of it. When something starts to look hopeless and troublesome, remember that there's always at least one other way to have a look at it, and always a way out : )

Stillness on the Tomoka, Oil Painting of Old Florida by Judy Batterson

On the east coast of Florida, the Tomoka River is a pristine wilderness that has not changed. I was asked to capture this in a painting by a friend who grew up on the Tomoka. I did site visits, sketches and took photos of this beautiful river. There was such a sense of peace with the gentle flow of the river. Some areas had dense areas of mangroves, palms and underbrush. Other mangrove clumps opened up to the sky, allowing sunlight to reflect off of the water. A white egret stood out against the darker water while other birds flew overhead. This river is "old Florida" appreciated by nature lovers everywhere. Original Oil 24"H x 36"W.

Diane Mannion, AMERICAN LOTUS

Diane Mannion, AMERICAN LOTUS, 6X6" oil
The longer I stood  by the pond, the more I began to see and when that Great White Heron appeared... I just had to paint him in!  This complex little painting is simply an illustration of a colorful morning in May.  And every other artist painting around the pond created their own unique vision... ordering chaos into paint on canvas.

"Skinny Dipping", II by Sally Shisler

"Skinny Dipping", II
See "Skinny Dipping, I" below to complete the pair!
(4x4") - 201210
This painting completes a pair - see the first Skinny Dipping a few posts down.  It's a trick trying to render a nude figure whilst maintaining a pure quality.  Nothing wrong with a little seduction. But I feel that an image with even the slightest bit of 'sexy' takes too much away from the virtues of the painting in and of itself. The smallest twist in the stance of the figure can make a huge difference. Hips, in particular, and shoulders too.  I'm not convinced that I didn't avoid it, but I did give it a try.
