I love to paint stormy weather, and this thundercloud looks like it wants to produce a tornado. Florida does have exciting weather, but no hurricanes for the past ten years. I think I prefer hurricanes to the harsh winter conditions up north right now.

Afternoon thunderstorms happen in Florida during the summer. The dark clouds turn into bright ones when the rain is over and the sun breaks through. This old rowboat was pulled under a palm to make a great composition, especially when the light poured through the sky. 16x20 oil.

Towards the Light, Abstract Oil in Blues by Judy Batterson

This loose flow of color is a bit unusual for me, but I wanted to try to express in paint what goes on in my head. If you swim underwater and look up, you swim towards the light. If you are in a storm, you know the sun still shines way above the clouds. We are always seeking the light. The bands of blue represent going from darkness into light. Small red boat beached on yellow sand under storm clouds is the setting for "The world is so big and my boat is so small." The boat is so small and lost next to the vastness of the ocean and sky. The storm clouds add to the drama. We have all had times when we feel overwhelmed like this. But we have to experience storms in order to appreciate the sunshine.
