I love to paint sunsets, but more importantly, I practice, practice, practivce sunsets.
I just retutned home from another Eliuo Camacho workshop, and, one of the main points I have retained this time is just that.  He spoke of how he spends hours and days and weeks perfecting a certain type of stroke, or perhaps a shape, until it is second nature.

Blue Cypress Sunset, Florida Tropical Sunset of Cypress Trees and Lake by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Cypress trees cover the shoreline of Blue Cypress Lake in the middle of Florida. And when the sun sets, the sky becomes vibrant with color. This large oil painting is on exhibit at Leu Gardens in Orlando until July 9, 2014.

Sometimes the sun is so huge it seems like it's overpowering! This sun reminded me of an old movie poster about surfers on safari for Endless Summer, chasing the sun and surf around the world. The warm colors intensify against the black silhouetted palm trees and water. 12x24 original oil. This painting was chosen for the Artists Registry Members 2013 Exhibit which showcases 2 works from each of 80 Florida artists.

There are certain moments at sunset when the sun appears to be a giant orb dwarfing the landscape. Like the sun overshadowing the surfing safari from "Endless Summer", the warm blazing light takes center stage. Then it drops below the horizon line, leaving a faint warm glow to the sky as it darkens. Original Oil on Canvas: 12x24"
