Daily Painting "Morning Sail" 6x8 Oil Landscape SOLD

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

SOLD

The thing about sailing, is that it looks like a lot more fun than it actually is.  I know, I know, that's just my opinion, so please don't get upset!  I enjoyed my days on the boat and I still love to spend an afternoon sailing.

Now, when I see a sail boat heading out on a beautiful sunny day, it seems like a little piece of paradise.
The real thing  almost never beats out imagination.  It's easy to forget the day the sail ripped or the day we sailed home in a raging storm with lightening strikes all around us.

Today, I will imagine....and paint about it.

Happy Birthday to my baby girl, Shelly!

Daily Painting, "Going Coconuts", Landscape, 6x8, Oil

This is another of my daily paintings from my trip to Sanibel Island in May.

My daughter and I were getting our exercise, taking a little walk before it was too hot one morning, trying to dodge all the people on bicycles without getting hit, when I saw this palm loaded with coconuts.

We live in Florida and see lots of palm trees, but our area is further north and coconut palms are not as common there.  There is a lot going on under those palms, all kinds of fibers hanging, old dried up fronds and other miscellaneous materials and of course, the coconuts.  It almost has an abstract quality.

Enjoy!

Blue Cypress Sunset, Florida Tropical Sunset of Cypress Trees and Lake by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Cypress trees cover the shoreline of Blue Cypress Lake in the middle of Florida. And when the sun sets, the sky becomes vibrant with color. This large oil painting is on exhibit at Leu Gardens in Orlando until July 9, 2014.

Paradise Found, Florida Oil Painting of Beach, Palms, Islands, Ocean, Sand by Judy Batterson, Florida artist

This larger oil painting was painted with soft colors. Tropical breezes, clusters of palms and soft sand were the focus of my painting. Clouds are typical of Florida summer afternoons. This is on exhibit at Leu Gardens until July 9, 2014.

Palms Along the River, Florida Oil Painting of St. John's River with Palm Trees by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

This 12 x 24 oil painting is from a houseboat trip along the St. John's River. The yellow sky is from the sunrise. The palms lined up for miles on the water which was filled with gators while birds were everywhere. Quite an adventure! This painting is now on exhibit at Leu Gardens until July 9, 2014.

Eco Trip, Oil Painting of Colorful Kayaks on Island Shore by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

This painting continues to draw viewers into it as they want to explore the island with the kayakers who are out counting turtle nests! That was happening when I first saw the kayaks on the sand while I was in a nearby boat. The kayaks belonged to the Marine Discovery Center of Volusia County, FL. Capturing that adventure in oil made an exciting painting experience! The painting has won many awards and most recently was chosen for the city of Casselberry 2014 Art Calendar.

Tall Palm, Tiny Island, Tropical Oil Painting by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

There are many tiny islands in the Keys with teeny tiny island cottages. Although the cottage I saw was old and weathered, I painted this one with fun island colors. The entire canvas was underpainted in blue, then many layers were added until the tall palm finished the landscape. I like the way the tiny house on the tiny island gives such a contrast to the tall palm in front of it. Such a fun painting and a joy to paint! Tall and tiny and tropical! 12" H x 36" W oil on canvas. Now hanging in an island house with a happy owner!

Florida Hammock, a Florida Coastal Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson

What would Ponce De Leon have seen five hundred years ago when he set foot in La Florida? He would have seen island hammocks along the Intracoastal Waterway just as we see today. These marshy hammocks have mangroves, palms, lush foliage, and abundant wildlife. Waters run with the tides from the ocean in these low coastal areas. We still enjoy this cool palette of tranquility. 16 x 20" original oil.

The Courtyard, Small OIl Painting of Palms and Fountain by Judy Batterson

Florida has not only beautiful natural areas but also beautifully landscaped courtyards all over the state. I painted this one at Pointe Orlando while I was set up in front of Battersby Gallery there. Tourists love to watch artists paint! And I enjoyed the courtyard! 5"H x 7"W Price: $ 75.00

Anastasia Palm, Old Florida Stately Palm Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson

On a beautiful afternoon, I set up my plein air easel in Lake Mary in front of a stately palm tree. With the sun shining on one side, the tree cast a shadow on the grass. Palms are my favorite trees because each one is so different, as if each has a different personality. This one sent out an Old Florida vibe. Tall, stately, and perfectly "coifed", the tree seemed more like a tropical sculpture. 12"H x 9"W

Mr. Pelican, Small OIl Painting of Brown Pelican by Judy Batterson

"Mr. Pelican" 5x7 original oil. I was thinking of pelicans in a storm since it's storm season in Florida and did some research. "Pelican do's and don'ts: If you find a famished pelican on land, the group International Bird Rescue offers these pointers: Don't feed it. Human foods can obstruct a bird's throat, and serving it fish can make it less likely to learn how to hunt.Do place it in a large box with air holes and a folded towel at the bottom if you want to take it to a rescue center. Keep the bird in a dark, quiet place until it is transferred.Do keep the bird warm. Don't allow children and pets near the bird." Never know when we can help wildlife! Painting framed in a beautiful woven dark wood. $125.

My Third Audubon Seashell Collection
These card size paintings in pastel and watercolour are being used as a card series for Audubon Stores, this is the third series I have created for them. The backs of the cards have a complete description of the shell and its habitat.

My sea shell cards are in book stores, gift shops and stores through the South East, Caribbean and Hawaii.

Many people frame the cards as they are on a very heavy gloss paper stock, archival, suitable for framing.

Most of these shells in the collection are found in the Caribbean, Florida & East Coast, California and Hawaii.
A wonderful place to look up your favorite beautiful shell http://www.blogger.com/goog_1499547105

Everyone loves sea shells and has special memories of a vacation spent at the beach. I look forward to hearing from all seashell collectors. Please drop me an email and share with me  your collection.

These are available in cards for sell and small glicee prints on my web store.

Tuscany Sunflower Study Pastel Phyllis O'Shields Florida Artist

Tuscany Sunflower Series VII

Pastel 12 x 16 without mat
Canson Mi-Teintes
Phyllis O'Shields Contemporary Impressionism
copyright 2011 PO'Shields

My Inspiration: Last of Summer Sunflowers on the back roads of Tuscany.
When visiting Tuscany each year I paint Sunflowers, Lavender and Olive Trees.
Each Tuscan Sunflower is different with it's own personality, thus I usually sketch en plein air
the one that jumps out at me.

There is nothing more beautiful than the Tuscan fields of golden sunflowers surrounding a golden rustic house with a terra cotta roof.
These are views that I use in large paintings, but for the sketching en plein air there is always one sunflower among the many that calls out to be drawn.

I will be posting over the next few weeks series of these plein air sketches.
Bravissima!

TAHITI SUNSET

Oil Painting on Linen Canvas 24 x 36
by Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism
Painted partially en plein air

Tahiti is a mystical place at all times of day. The colours change constantly, the intensity and brightness of the colour is very difficult to believe when translated to canvas. I look forward to many more paintings of Tahiti capturing the mountains and water at different times of day. Truly a paradise.

Key West on a clear day, early morning invites one to just hang out and enjoy the view. This was painted en plein air on such a morning. Of coarse I sat down and enjoyed the breezes after the painting was finished.
