Tropical Landscape, "Going Coconuts" by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Oil

A few years ago we visited Sanibel Island.  It is such a beautiful place with the beaches and beautiful foliage.  Most of the island is a nature reserve and the people who live there have gone to great lengths to protect the natural beauty.

Rollins College, The McKean Gate, A Winter Park, FL Landmark in Oil by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida is one of the finest private colleges in the South. At the entrance of the campus is a stately archway honoring a past president of Rollins, Mr. Hugh McKean. It is a symbol of stepping into a world of higher education surrounded by palm trees, lakes, brick streets, and beautiful architecture. 11 x 14" Oil on canvas framed in a burnished gold floater frame.

Child Figurative, Child on Beach Art "Capturing Attitude" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Capturing Attitude is an oil painting on canvas. It is one of a number of paintings in the Attitude Series. Whether children are at play or at rest, they are so full of joy and wonder, and so excited about everything around them. Yet, after a long day of playing very hard in the water and moving sand around on the beach they become very tired. There is no hiding their emotions, they are a never-ending source of subject matter. Victoria is saying, Grammie, not another picture! Could you resist snapping another shot of this beautiful face?

Holiday Sale and Wild and Wacky Wednesday, Floral Collage, by Carol Schiff, 8x8" torn paper collage

This posting is doing double duty for me.  Of course, it is Wild and Wacky Wednesday....but it is also showing an example of items you can expect to see at the Pieces of Eight Holiday Sale this Saturday.

Purchase here

This 8x8" torn paper collage on canvas panel is listed in my Etsy store for $79.95 plus shipping.  It will be priced for $45.00 at our sale.  Nice saving!  I decided to present it to you today at the same price.  After all, not everyone will be able to come to Central Florida this weekend.  So when you purchase today, just write Wild and Wacky on the order, and I will immediately send you a  refund $35.00!

You might ask why I don't just lower the price on the listing.  That is because this price is only good until midnight today.  It is easier to send a refund than to remember to change the price of the listing early Wednesday and then (if it doesn't sell) change it back again the next morning.

Happy Shopping and don't forget to follow this link for a map to the sale.

1525 Lonesome Beauty Pink Water Lily Painting

This was inspired by a visit to White City Park, I can't get enough of the beautiful water lilies that bloom there. This was painted almost totally with the painting knife and is rich with texture.

Still Life Painting, Fruit, "Limes" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

It's a steamy hot day...there's no breeze to take the edge off...how about a cold Corona and Lime? So enormously satisfying at that moment in time.

Still Life Painting, Fruit,Orange, "Florida Oranges" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

My favorite drink when those oranges are perfectly ripened and sweet. The most beautiful fragrance fills the air when the trees are in bloom...like heavenly perfume.

Small Seascape, "Florida Surf" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

I love to walk on the beach and I also love to paint the scenes I find there.  So, when I walk, it is always with camera in hand.

I almost always start with a brush...but some paintings demand a knife.  This one demanded a knife.  I like the effect as the surf was choppy on this day and the knife helps to depict that.

Do your paintings evolve despite your best intentions?  It may not be the painting I envisioned  when I started but I always enjoy the process and MOST of the time, the results.

Florida Coastal Landscape, Seascape Painting "The Journey Home" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

My inspiration for this painting is a tribute to our beloved Affenpinscher, Mia, who took her journey home recently. My painting is of a peaceful, sunny day boating through the islands of palms and mangroves and returning home. Can you feel the serenity?

1524 Wind in the Oaks Plein Air Alla Prima

The wind was getting strong when I did this one, that is Spanish moss growing from the oak branches.  The Florida holly has its berries now and is very pretty.

The painting is oil on masonite, 5 x 7 inches.  $100.

Safari Sunset, Orange and Red Sky with Huge Setting Sun by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Sometimes the sun is so huge it seems like it's overpowering! This sun reminded me of an old movie poster about surfers on safari for Endless Summer, chasing the sun and surf around the world. The warm colors intensify against the black silhouetted palm trees and water. 12x24 original oil. This painting was chosen for the Artists Registry Members 2013 Exhibit which showcases 2 works from each of 80 Florida artists.

"View From The Cottage by The Sea" Original Florida Coastal Landscape, Seascape Painting by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Sunset...the time of day when the ultimate calm sets in and the only way to describe it is utter peacefulness. People marvel at the quickly changing glorious colors, along with the speed of descent. Immediately comes the tremendous applause as the sun slips away. This was my view from the "Cottage By The Sea". Would you like to live here?

1523 Tropical Blue Bamboo Plein Air Alla Prima

I painted this today at the Heathcote Botanical Gardens in the Gloria Moore Memorial garden.  It was perfect today, not too hot or cold.  I took a few liberties with the plant positions, in real life there is a nice screw palm that I have painted before.  Its right in front of the bamboo.  I was enjoying doing the in and out lights and darks of the bamboo that  I didn't want to cover my work with another big plant.

Its 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

Palms Along the River, Florida Oil Landscape of St. John's River by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

We rented a houseboat from Holly Bluff Marina near DeLand, Florida, and took it on the St. John's River for the weekend. What we found was total pristine wilderness with beautiful tall palms lining the river's edge. I took my sketchbook and paints to capture the water, birds, and trees. This painting has been chosen for the 2013 Artists Registry Exhibit which shows two works of art by 80 artists from around the state. 12x24 original oil.
