This iguana painting is not a painting of just any iguana, but my rescued iguana, named Father Mulcahy! Father M came to live with me after he got too big for his aquarium. He was over 4 feet long and loved to be part of the family. I had a house full of rescue cats and he fit right in. He loved to chase the cats throughout the house and bask in the sun on top of the cat condo. He was a sweet and intelligent animal that responded to human touch and loved to watch television.... his favorite show was M*A*S*H! When he passed away I was heartbroken and painted his portrait to show how gentle and beautiful he was. The painting was included in Splash 15 by North Light Books. The original painting is available as well as canvas prints

Wildlife Art, Nature, Frog Painting, "MASKED TREE FROG" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

Smilisca phaeota is a fairly large tree frog of the NeoTropics. It is active at night during the wet season. You can often hear the males calling to the females during the mating season. The frog is sometime referred to as the Camouflage Frog as it has the ability to change from green to brown. It can be found in shallow temporary pools of water. Females lay their eggs in puddles of water which accumulate, covering the top of the water with a film of up to 2,000 eggs. Tadpoles develop quickly in the temporary pools and puddles.

The Sally Lightfoot Crab is an amazing array of dazzling color! I saw these crabs while visiting the Galapagos Islands. At different stages of their lifecycle, they molt their outer shells and emerge with a different color combination. As juveniles they are a darker indigo blue and as they age they become more brilliant and multicolored. I painted this on Fabriano Artistico Soft Press 300lb watercolor paper. I first used watercolor to establish the basic colors. The rocks were done with a granulating watercolor called hematite. I finished the painting using colored pencil and pastels for do the details on top of the watercolor.

The Green Jay is part of the Corvidae species of birds and is related to crows and ravens. It is found in the Neo Tropics and northward into the southern parts of Texas. in the USA. They are inquisitive and like to "talk". In this painting I wanted to play with the brilliant color of the bird against the natural stone structure of a Mayan bas relief. The warrior is found as a relief on the side of a Mayan temple with his hand extended. It seemed like the perfect "perch" for the Green Jay to land and have a nice chat.
