Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson
On the Florida east coast, the Tomoka River is a pristine wilderness river. I was asked by a friend who grew up there to capture this in a painting . I did site visits, sketches and took photos. There was such a sense of peace with the gentle flow of the river. Some areas had dense mangroves, palms and underbrush. Other mangroves opened up to the sky, allowing sunlight to reflect off of the water. A white egret stood out against the dark water while birds flew overhead. This river is "old Florida" appreciated by nature lovers everywhere. The commissioned 24 x 36" original oil is sold, but giclees are available ($425).

"Purple Mountains Majesty", 8x10, oil on wrapped canvas-$145, by Maryanne Jacobsen
I've been working on mountains and brushstrokes these past few days, and I've had a ball. Sometimes, I get too involved in trying to do the "correct thing", academically speaking. But I always find that when I just experiment, using common sense, I end up accumulating little pieces of knowledge that carry over into my next endeavor.
I hope you enjoy this one! I definitely enjoyed painting it, and I thank God that He has given me an artistic outlet for my passions and creativity!

I have been in a bit of a funk again, I hope I am done with it! Went painting today here at the Old Fort Park. It was a beautiful morning when I got there, perfect for painting. The last few times I have been painting here I have been attracted to those squiggly trees in the back ground. Took a close look today, they have long leaves and aren't gumbo limbos, which is what I thought they were. Now I am wondering just what they are. Its 8 x 10 oil on masonite,

"Red Poppies in Provence",14x11, oil on board- $350, by Maryanne jacobsen
"Red Poppies in Provence",14x11, oil on board- $350
This is one of those paintings that fell together without much effort. No preliminary sketch, no intense thought behind it, just lots of vibrant color and fun! Loved painting it, and since it fell together rather quickly I have priced it well under my normal pricing structure to sell quickly. The photo does not do justice to the painting as the impasto and brush strokes cannot be seen.
Lots of lovely color and pieces of impasto in this one! Take your very own trip to Provence within this painting for a fraction of the price! To see some of my other paintings of the Provence region, simply type the words, Provence, Luberon, St. PAul de Vence or lavender into the search box located at the top of the left hand column at my home page.

Paradise Found, original Florida oil landscape of beach, ocean, and palms by Judy Batterson
“Paradise Found” If you could imagine serenity, it would be a quiet, uninhabited island of gently blowing palms. The white edge of the blue sea caresses the soft pink sand. The painting has a soft, quiet feeling. The pastels of the sand and sea soften the shadows under the palms. In the distance, there is another island. The afternoon clouds are building and billowing. Islands like this beckon boaters. Like in this painting, those who discover these islands experience the tranquility of paradise, if only for an afternoon. Blended color areas softened the feel of the painting. Original Oil on masonite. 20" x 28" $2400 (Giclee available $400)

"The Mysterious Everglades", 10x8, oil on canvas-great bleu heron
"The Mysterious Everglades", 10x8, oil on canvas-$79, by Maryanne Jacobsen
I was driving past a familiar lake today, and there was a great blue heron in the water. Something about him caught my eye, so I stopped the car and got out. The heron's feathers looked weird to me- mottled with white spots. As I drew closer, he flew away.
I could not get him out of my mind. Was there something wrong with his feathers? Was there something wrong with him? I certainly do not know.
But one thing that I do know is this. We are guests on this beautiful planet that God gave us to live in. We need to respect each and every single creature that lives here, and take nothing for granted since this beautiful planet is a gift that comes with responsibility. I believe that we were formed in the image of the Creator and given the wonderful gift of dominion over every creature on the planet. With that gift comes great responsibility, and we have certainly not been great stewards of the planet in the past century.

Daily Painting 1218 Looking West Plein Air Alla Prima
I did this for the Vero Show, its oil on plywood. 5 x 7 inches. Well not too many sales at the show, I heard one sold from someone, don't know if anyone else sold any. When I was at the reception, it looked like mostly artists and their families. I guess maybe the weather had something to do with it, it was outside and pretty chilly.

Daily Painting 1217 Oak at Round Island Plein Air
I still wasn't happy with this one so I tweaked it some, I think I am really finished with it now.
It was 48 when I started painting, I was in the sun but it was windy and damp. So I get the painting finished, I was happy with it. I ease it into the frame and I put the nails in and looked at it, it got pressed against the blanket in the Jeep, grrrr! Big smears. I was PO’ed! Well it wasn’t as bad as it looked, I scraped some off, took a little paint from here and there and patched it up. The benefits of painting with lots of paint, I have lots of paint on the panel to fix things with. Only took a minute or two. I wish I would have taken a photo first of the smears, LOL!
The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

A Walk in the Park, a Florida oil landscape by Judy Batterson
This is another painting in my "springtime in Florida" series with a focus on the yellow tabebuia tree. This tree blooms brilliant
yellow petals which fall to the ground below. There are many types of tabebuia trees, but the yellow is my favorite. This painting captures a memory of a springtime walk in Leu Gardens. Impasto brushstrokes built up the petals. 12 x 12" oil on board, $350

Bursting Forth, a Florida Spring Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson
“Bursting Forth” A tabebuia tree bursting forth in brilliant yellow blooms is a sight to behold in the spring. I used thick impasto paint so the tree seems to bloom right off of the painting. As the tree blooms, petals fall, creating a carpet of yellow underneath. The twisting trunk swings to the right to balance the uphill movement to the left. A Florida springtime delight! 12" x 12", $350 Framed, visit www.judybatterson.com
