Florida Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Tropical Painting, 5x7" Oil Landscape

I guess I am a typical artist.  By that, I mean unorganized!

I just found this little painting in the back of my inventory closet.  I must have painted it 6 or 7 years ago!

Purchase here

I always wondered why it didn't sell!

I sit here tonight (Sept 10) listening to the wind howl, the rain pounding, a huge tree down in our yard and another of about 19 tornado warnings on our weather radio going off.  Hurricane Irma has been beating us up all day, with the worse to come about 2:00 a.m.

Trying to do blog posts to distract from the fury outside.

On the bright side, for the time being, we still have power.  The lights flicker, but so far, they have come back on.  That's a biggy!  When we lose power in a hurricane, it usually takes close to a week to get it back.  A long hot, humid week!!

Thanks for reading my blog.

Tropical Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, "Golden Palm" by Carol Schiff, 16x20" Oil, SOLD

I was going through some of my old files, and found this tropical Landscape painting that I did several years ago.  I was in morning light, in an area covered with palmettos.  I was fascinated by the play of light on the palm fronds, forming beautiful abstract shapes.

I worked very hard on this one, to get the dramatic values that I wanted.

Tropical Landscape Painting, "Coconut Palms" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

A few weeks ago, I was hanging out at one of my favorite places, Eau Gallie Yacht Club.  It is a gorgeous facility sitting on Florida's intra-coastal waterway.  I was sitting outside, enjoying a glass of wine and watching my grandson paddleboard, surrounded by dolphins.  Suddenly I noticed three palms filled with coconuts.

I love the fact that I can pull out my cell and take photos anywhere.  In the old days (before last year) I would miss lots of photo opportunities when I left the house without a camera.

Computers have truely changed our lives.  I remember reading a few years ago, about an undercover invention that was going to change mankind.  Come to find out....it was the Segway!  Ha!

Oh well, one life changing invention in a life time is all I can ask for.....and that is the internet.

Morning Palm

Diane Mannion, MORNING PALM, 6x6" oil
Some mornings, it's too beautiful to think about walking the dogs, going to the gym, or even painting.  Just happy to look across the street and see the sun rise behind the neighbors house.

Simply Palms, Florida Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson

Palms reflected in the water stir memories of Florida. The clouds in the sky are mirrored in the water with the reeds and grasses. The darker palms stand out against the background. A true Florida scene. 5 x 7" original oil painting.

Moon Shadows, Tropical Florida Night with Full Moon Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson

When a full moon is in the night sky , the reflection on the water sparkles like diamonds while the moonlight creates palm shadows. This painting captures the moment of night light tranquility. The whiteness of the moonlight and its highlights contrast against the darkness of the night. The value contrast has high drama and creates a surreal world. The full moon creates patterns of light while it illuminates the clouds, the water and the shoreline. The dark values keep everything still. Framed 16 x 20" Original Oil on canvas $1500 (Giclee available $325, Prints $75) Chosen by Orlando Magazine for "Paint the Town" 8th Annual Exhibition, Chosen for "Simply the Best" book by Timothy's Gallery, Available at Let Us Frame It in Orlando, FL.

Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson

On the Florida east coast, the Tomoka River is a pristine wilderness river. I was asked by a friend who grew up there to capture this in a painting . I did site visits, sketches and took photos. There was such a sense of peace with the gentle flow of the river. Some areas had dense mangroves, palms and underbrush. Other mangroves opened up to the sky, allowing sunlight to reflect off of the water. A white egret stood out against the dark water while birds flew overhead. This river is "old Florida" appreciated by nature lovers everywhere. The commissioned 24 x 36" original oil is sold, but giclees are available ($425).

Rock of Ages, a sequence showing oil layering, by Judy Batterson

Photo #2 of the oil layering sequence of "Rock of Ages". These next layers paint in the palms and other trees in the background of
the Florida woods. The ground in the foreground is established along with the focal point which will be the rock. The dappled shadows of the light streaming through the trees are painted also. www.judybatterson.com

Palm Afternoon, a Coastal Florida Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson

Artists have painted many scenes like this, but I tried to be different by making mine very textural. Heavy layers of paint on the palms, the sand and the seaweed give dimension to the foreground. The angle of the sun creates good tension with deep shadows in the underbrush and highlights on the tops of the palms and mangroves. Slightly impressionistic, the painting shows a natural coastal landscape. 16 x 29" oil on masonite. www,judybatterson.com

Lone Palm, a Florida Landscape by Judy Batterson

In Florida, clumps of mangroves and palms grow along waterways. This hammock had a single palm rising from the center of the foliage next to the water. Blues and greens dominate the composition, giving it a cool, verdant feeling. Naturalists enjoy exploring these tropical ecosystems. 16x20 oil on masonite. www.judybatterson.com

Florida Hammock, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms and Mangroves by Judy Batterson

This hammock, with abundant wildlife and strong reflections, is typical of the marshy hammocks along the low coastal areas of Florida. A cool palette of blues and greens make a calming scene, natural and tranquil. Palm and mangroves are painted in detail as they grow out of the foliage along the waterway. 16 x 20" oil www.judybatterson.com
