Something exciting has happened, here in the studio!

I have been contacted by CBS, and have given them my permission, to use two of my artworks on their TV shows.  The new Magnum PI, and Hawaii Five-O series  will be on my view list forever!

The artworks are both seascapes, and here they are:

Small Seascape, Wave Painting, Daily Painting, Small oil painting, "Cresting", 8x8x1.5"

For lovers of the sea!

I did a few small paintings where I focused in on a wave, instead of my usual long distance view.  I was not sure they would be successful, but they both sold quickly.  Both clients have similar reactions to them.....they felt the paintings revived wonderful memories of their times in or on the ocean.  I decided to try a few more.

Palm Afternoon, a Coastal Florida Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson

Artists have painted many scenes like this, but I tried to be different by making mine very textural. Heavy layers of paint on the palms, the sand and the seaweed give dimension to the foreground. The angle of the sun creates good tension with deep shadows in the underbrush and highlights on the tops of the palms and mangroves. Slightly impressionistic, the painting shows a natural coastal landscape. 16 x 29" oil on masonite. www,judybatterson.com

Plein Air Painting in the Rain by Sharon Guy

Rainy Morning, Oil on canvas, 12 in. x 9 in.

Last weekend my early morning plein air painting sessions were interrupted a couple times by heavy rain. I sat in the car and drew some fabulous clouds. After a short painting session, I had to retreat to the pavilion while a thunderstorm and downpour went on. Beachgoers were patiently waiting and hoping they could go back out on the sand. I ended up finishing this painting in the studio. Painting outside in all the elements requires some flexibility. It expresses the mood of the beach in the rain, with birds huddled together. Blustery Day, Impressionistic Wind Blown Palms, by Judy Batterson

Using a palette knife and thick brushstrokes, this painting was done in an impressionistic style. The wind blown palms are dancing in the air currents while the sun is reflects on the water. The clouds are filled with light and shadows. The paint is still in layers but painted with thicker paint. This painting is currently in the Biennial V Exhibit at the Museum of Florida Art in DeLand.

Plein Air Painting at the Beach by Sharon Guy

North End, Siesta Beach, Oil on canvas, 8" x 10"

There is a grassy area near the parking area at the North end of Siesta Beach. I backed my car in so I could leave my trunk open and pull my art supplies out for my plein air setup. While facing the water I had a close-up view of the grasses, sea grapes, and weeds. A bunny grazed nearby in the grass for a long time. This was painted very early in the morning. For more art visit my website at Sharon Guy Art.

Neptune Beach, Jacksonville, Florida

Sunrise, Neptune Beach, Oil on canvas, 26" x 18"

Here is another painting from my February trip to Jacksonville for a half marathon race. I painted a lot of sunsets and sunrises in 2009 and 2010. Lately I've been moving on to other subjects for a change. Neptune Beach was a fun place to stay. I liked walking by the high dunes and tall grasses. Seeing a sunrise over the water instead of a sunset was inspiring. I live in southwest Florida and I've watched the sun rise over a nearby pasture on a few early mornings. My website is at Sharon Guy Art.

More Florida Bird Art

Gull, Oil on canvas, 12 in. x 9 in.

I spend a lot of time sketching and photographing birds at Siesta Beach. Now, every time I go there I worry about the oil slick that might be blown this way if the wind changes. This is what the edge of the Gulf Coast looks like when it the water and sand is clean and the wildlife is safe and healthy. For more art visit my website at Sharon Guy Art.
