This was so much fun to paint! I tried to capture a Florida feeling with a happy little palm tree. 8 x 10" framed original oil. Now at Fredlund Gallery in Winter Park, FL.
This 24x24 acrylic on canvas started out very different. I was painting last Friday and I heard the news of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. I took a break, a long break, and came back to the painting. My direction started changing. I just finished it late yesterday. It is dedicated to the memory of the 26 Angels we lost that day.

Take a trip into the heart of Florida along trails next to lakes and creeks. There is dense foliage along the edge of the water. The lake reflects the blue sky and palms. Patches of sand and reeds are dotted along the water's edge. This is "Old Florida", a vast ecosystem of marshes and lakes. This is the old Florida I remember as a child when my friends and I would "go exploring" in the woods. In this painting, Florida's wild beauty translates into color and light. 8 x 10" framed original oil
McKean Gate, Entrance to Rollins College: Walk through the McKean Gate and enter the beautiful campus of Rollins College in Winter Park! Honoring Hugh McKean, former president of Rollins, the gate is a tribute to the man who also brought the Tiffany glass collection to Winter Park. As I studied the gate, I had an "Abbey Road" flashback! Knowing that Paul McCartney's stepson goes to Rollins, I decided the paint the gate with the crosswalk in mind. As a young artist, I knew Mr. McKean. As a young person, I played the Beatles' songs! When I finished the painting, I thought of how both men had influenced my life in music and in art. The McKean Gate invites all to use their creative talents to touch others! And that is what Mr. McKean would have wanted. 14"H x 11"W original oil, Price: $ 450.00
I
painted this today by Lake Tozour, I had to paint very fast, it looked
like rain and I finished at 11. Got there around 9:30. On the way home
it started to rain so I was glad I finished it up all right. Those are
cypress trees. There are lots of birds here, its a lovely place to
paint.
The painting is oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches. $200.

This painting shows the history of Winter Park, Florida.
With this conceptual process, I stood at the edge of the Genius Preserve looking across Lake Virginia at Rollins College. The Genius Preserve was the Windsong Estate of Jeannette Genius McKean and Hugh McKean. Jeannette was a quiet art crusader whose grandfather was Charles Hosmer Morse. He had given the land for Central Park in Winter Park. Hugh had been a young art student of Louis Tiffany and later became president of Rollins College. When the New York Tiffany estate burned, they saved the Tiffany glass and brought it to Winter Park. The McKeans made it a comprehensive collection now housed in the Morse Museum. Visitors from all over the world come to see the windows and glass. I was a young artist when I helped them at the Morse. My favorite window was the Wisteria Window, and, thus, the overlay on the painting. Tying culture and beauty together, I give homage to the McKeans for preserving the paradise of this area!

My friend, Cindy, may live in a condo, but that doesn't stop her from being an excellent gardener.
These lovely specimens were happily growing on the balcony on a vine that was bursting with fruit.
$96
I tried to capture the sun streaming through the vine and the tomatoes in various stages of red.
Doesn't it just make you want to go mix up a salad? How much better can it be than to pick food from the vine and walk directly into the kitchen with it to prepare dinner. The perfect lunch break while shopping today!
Speaking of shopping, don't forget my 1/2 price sale here. November 30th is the last day of the sale.
Wouldn't you like to have Santa bring you a small oil painting? You can do that for someone you love.
Today, I am posting a few more of my daily paintings that are available at my Etsy site for 1/2 Price!
The sale is running for the rest of the month of November. At the end of the month, any remaining paintings will be returned to their original price. Some of these works were already on sale and the 1/2 off price is off the original sale price, which makes them VERY inexpensive at the moment.
This is just a sample of the 45 paintings left as I write this. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to give a really special gift.
I can frame your choice in a custom made wood frame and send it to you, ready for the wall. If you comment below and express this choice, I will contact you with additional information. I will also wrap your choice and send it direct to your loved one with a note from you, if you so desire.
The painting I am featuring today is a commission piece. My wonderful client sent her husband's photographic images to me and asked that I use them as reference.

I worked with a palette knife and tried to capture the spirit of the scene. The image she sent me was so beautiful. I was thrilled when she expressed her approval.
On another note, I am running my first ever half price sale on some of my small daily paintings on my Etsy site, here. The paintings are selling fast, so THINK CHRISTMAS! The sale ends November 30th and any remaining paintings will return to full price. Below are a few of the many available.
I
had some paint left over on my palette from another painting and hated
to throw them away so I made a soft background on a blank panel. It has
sat for awhile and I took it out every so often to see if I would get
some inspiration. I could see some palm trees wanting to come out of the
mist so I brought them out, saw some more plants and here it is. I
hardly used my painting knife at all, there is very little texture in
this one.
Its oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches. $200.
I went out to paint when the edge of Sandy was going by, it was just windy. Had a nice walk on the beach too.
I
like to start off with a fast sketch before I do the painting to warm
up and catch any compositional problems. The wind was blowing strong
and it looked like rain so I parked under a pavilion at Fredrick Douglas
park on the beach. I got my sketch finished and the rain started
coming down, well not down really more like across, it was blowing
pretty horizontal. Got soaked on the way to the car which was about 20
feet away.
Last night I pulled out my sketch and made the painting below from it, its 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite. $200.
