Florida has a unique wildlife corridor in the center of the state called the Wekiva River Preserve State Park. There are hiking trails along with canoe and kayak runs in pristine wilderness. A different color theme adapted from an earlier painting I did last year. That painting "Redheads", drew a lot of admirers and I wanted to see if this one would as well. In the last several paintings I have done, I have used colors that are much more earthy. One because I wanted to explore them more as realistic colors, and two because I wanted to see how people respond to them as compared to the others. In this one, Me and Mom, the bold colors are back. It's safe to say that you all much prefer the more vibrant colors that I have made a habit of using. I'm missing my usual one or two comments : ) Strange how we as artists can really like a painting, only to find out that others don't so much.

Twin Bikinis - June Palette Knife Workshop Almost Full!!
This paintings is for sale at The SOBO Art Center in Winter Garden Florida throughout the month of May. Please contact Mary Keating at 407-376-8657 or mkeating@@wgart.org for purchase information.
In this painting I wanted to create the childlike personality of the little girls' poses. So cute. Normally I paint figures that relay candid views of what people do when they don't know anyone is looking. Creepy sounding, I know I could have worded that better... But this was fun and I think it opens up more possibilities for subjects to paint.
As of yesterday, the studio I wrote about in the last post is officially mine!! Oh my goodness, I'm so excited to have a dream come true. There is much in the works. Again, I will be teaching lessons, conducting plein air workshops, painting, chilling out, talking shop, running my dogs on the nearby bike trail. The studio is a short 3 blocks from the SoBo gallery where my paintings are currently on display till the end of may. My workshop classroom is also there, right in the heart of historical downtown Winter Garden Florida. Countless views to paint in a simple 180 degree turn.

Florida Coastal Landscape,Seascape Painting, Roses,"Coastal Sea Roses"Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin
Coastal Sea Roses is a palette knife done with oils. Imagine the pop of bright pink, lacey sea roses. Their fragrance and delicate look are so captivating. You just have to stop and smell the roses. Impatiens spilling out of an old wooden window box, eating chowder and clam cakes and can you smell that sea air?

Daily Painting, Seascape Painting, 6x12" The Sea by Carol Schiff SOLD
If you follow my daily painting blog, you know I visit the ocean on a regular basis
I am always amazed at the changes of color I find in the waves.
I never know which kind of sea I will find when I go to the beach. Smooth and gentle, crazy and wild, dull or sparkling. Hmmmmm, much the same as my painting experiences. Smooth and everything drops into place like magic, frustrating or total failure when I feel like it is the very first time I picked up a brush, fresh and clean or the dreaded OVERWORKED!
Happy Painting!

Breaking a Leg by Sally Shisler - June Palette Knife Info
4x4" Oil on Linen
This painting has sold, but I may have others like it!
I have some really exciting news! It just keeps coming along - things are starting to pick up. I have found a beautiful studio space in downtown Winter Garden Florida, where I can teach lessons, conduct plein air workshops, paint, chill out, talk shop....and ever important, bring my dogs Sarge and Dex. What more could I ask for? Walking distance from SoBo Gallery and classroom.
I loved painting this painting. Happily, it flowed right off the knife. Simple subject, but the design I felt very strongly about. Kind of like fashion illustration, I guess. This one was the first to sell at the opening reception a few weeks ago. Speaking of which, my paintings will hang for two more weeks at the SoBo gallery. Again - if you're in the Winter Garden area (west Orlando), swing by! The paintings will hang in my new studio thereafter and can be seen by appointment.

1550 Kaleidoscope Coral Miniature Oil Painting
This is a little one, its 4 x 6 inches, oil on masonite. I have been painting a few of these undersea fantasy paintings, they are all out of my head, lots of fun to do. I start out with a background of leftover paint on my palette and take a look at it when it is dry and if I am lucky I start seeing where the coral should be and find the fish. $100.
Daily Painting, Abstract Seascape, The Sea by Carol Schiff, 6x8" SOLD
![]() |
| SOLD |
Time for another little abstract painting. The more I paint, the more I want to experiment with abstracts and mixed media.
I try to keep a limited palette and have a rough composition in mind. From there, anything goes and I am always surprised by the outcome.
Many abstracts will work in a landscape or portrait format. I think this is one that does. Do you have a preference?
Here is a fun thought I found of Facebook last week. Finish this sentence, "You know you're an artist when....".
I will start off with this...You know you're an artist when you hide all the "pretty fruit" from you family until you have finished your still life.
You know you're an artist when you constantly find yourself covered with paint on the strangest body parts.
The Kayakers, 16x20 Original Oil Painting on Canvas by Carmen Beecher

| SOLD |
This is a completed commission. I took a few photos as I went along, and put them together as a very brief little slideshow. Check it out on Facebook. In retrospect I wish I had cropped the photos; I had some misguided idea that it would look very much "in progress" if a little of the easel showed.
On to the next commission, then on Monday I am challenging my painting group Pieces of 8 to do a painting in only 37 minutes. The idea came from Robert Genn, who did this exercise in his workshops. It is an agonizing exercise, and I hope we will all still be friends after it's over!

I don't often paint sets, but this pair seemed fitting. I am on my way out the door to do some plein air painting with a couple of fantastic painters. Don Sondag and Noreen Coup. Lots happening these past few days! I was invited yesterday to teach a three day palette knife workshop in late May of 2015 at the prestigious Art School in Sandy Springs; Atlanta GA. I'm working on scheduling more throughout the remainder of 2014 and into 2015 so stay tuned!

Daily Painting, Seagull Painting, "The Three Stooges" by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Oil,
The three birds in today's daily painting look a little goofy to me. Maybe they are hungry, or maybe they are plotting against another, but I just don't trust them.
They remind me of my childhood and the notorious "Three Stooges", Larry, Moe and Curly.
You remember them don't you? They were always getting into trouble.
They are looking at a fourth seagull....not in this painting, and I don't think it is in a friendly manner! I hope to do a second painting of this group, including the fourth member.
The reference photo was shared from Shelley Smart at her wonderful blog here. Shelley is a fantastic photographer and generous too. She gave me permission to use her image years ago. I hope you will visit her interesting blog, "A Year at the Beach", where she recorded the activity on the beach every day.

Castaway Point, 6x8 Original Oil Painting by Carmen Beecher
![]() |
| $99, Click to Purchase
My painting group, Pieces of 8, is doing weekly challenges and the challenge for this week was to paint en plein air, using four tubes of paint only. We were at a beautiful spot called Castaway Point, and there were so many lovely views. It is surprising how many colors can be made with three colors and white. Makes me wonder why I have so many different colors in my paint box. I do notice that my painting is a bit softer than usual, and I am not sure if it was because of the paint colors, the bright sunshine, or my canvas being in the shade.
