Painting the Everglades
River of Grass, Oil on canvas, 12 in. 9 in.
This is one of my recent Everglades paintings. The extreme flatness and openness is challenging but I keep finding subtle color variations and patterns to focus on. For more Florida art, visit my website at Sharon Guy Art.

Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson in a painting sequence.
This is the 5th photo of a painting sequence of the Tomoka River. The next photo will be the finished work. Now the highlights are painted over the shadows, the reflections in the water are painted, and the tops of the palm trees are established. The light source is from the right side of the painting. Next, the foreground will be painted to complete the landscape. Stay tuned! For more Florida oil landscapes, go to www.judybatterson.com.

Daily Painting by Sally Shisler, "Reserved Parking"
"Reserved Parking" (3x2.5")-201040
Seems like just a minute ago that I posted the first little painting I did for the paintout. Now here it is already Wednesday! Yikes - I better get a move on. Here is another little one that I did outside the country club at the north end of Winter Park. Can't remember the name of it now.... I don't know the significance of this humble little building. To me it seems a lovely blast of color for the president of the club, who enjoys the prime parking spot right in front of it. Artwork from the paintout can be viewed at the event website: Winter Park Paintout New Arrivals.

Florida Birds Painting Series by Sharon Guy
Patience, Oil on canvas, 24 in. x 18 in.
I have been focusing on a series of Florida bird paintings. This Great White Heron stands patiently at the edge of a marsh, waiting for a fish to go by. The thick, tall grasses surrounding the bird and the murky reflections in the water were as interesting to paint as the bird. Daily Painting by Sally Shisler, "Veggies & Butterflies"
"Veggies & Butterflies" (4x4")-201039
Saturday marked the first day of a week long paint out here in Winter Park, FL. This is a little one that I painted Saturday evening. An intimate view of the path through the vegetable and butterfly gardens. The painting is currently available through the website for the event: Winter Park Paintout & Exhibition at the Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens. I will try to post regularly - we'll see. Paintouts are hectic, to say the least!

Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson in a painting sequence.
This photo is the fourth one in a sequence of a painting of the Tomoka River. After starting with the background, now the foreground and underbrush along the riverbanks are painted using a stiff bristle brush to achieve the effect of foliage. These dark areas form the shadows before the highlights are painted in. For more Florida landscapes, go to www.judybatterson.com

Florida Landscape Painting by Sharon Guy
Reflections, Oil on Canvas, 12 in. x 9 in.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Here is a swamp scene that could be anywhere in Florida. Sometimes the landscapes that are not frequently visited make interesting subjects. I noticed how the water was full of colorful reflections and I made that the focus of this painting. For more information or to purchase visit my website at Sharon Guy Art.

Lynn Morgan Contemporary Pastel Landscape Painting
Went out today and the sky looked pretty much like the painting when I got there but that big cloud in the background got closer and closer and pretty soon it began pouring.
I just checked the painting, it survived fine, the rain drops on it are all dried up. I was under a pavilion with fellow Daily Painter Fawn McNeil it was nice painting with her even though it was raining. The painting is 8 x 10 oil, on masonite $300.

A Perfect Beach Day, Oil Painting by Sharon Guy, Sarasota, Florida
I painted this 10" x 12" oil on canvas from a scene at Lido Beach in Sarasota, Florida. The wind was strong and the surf was high but it was still a perfect day to hang around at the beach. For more information visit my website at Sharon Guy Art.
Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson in a painting sequence.
This is the third photo in a sequence of a painting of the Tomoka River. The sky and clouds have been blended in the background. So far this painting has about four layers of oil paint using the dry oil method, otherwise known as fat over lean.
These have been the lean layers which shape the composition and background. For more Florida oil landscapes, go to my website www.judybatterson.com

Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson in a painting sequence.
This is the second sequence of a painting of the Tomoka River. I paint in layers, building the darks and lights. The details don't happen until the very end, often after 10 to 12 layers. In this layer, after first painting some guidelines for the composition, I start to gently fill in some color masses to form shapes. I use my on site photos and sketches of the Tomoka as references. I also found a 1905 photo of the Tomoka River which shows that it has not changed much. It is still a pristine Florida wilderness river that is beautiful. Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson in a painting sequence.
This is the first step in a commission painting of the Tomoka River which is near Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach. I went to Tomoka State Park to view the river and take many photos from all accessible parts of the river. There is such a tranquility there, and yet it is so close to a populated area. I took my photos and sketches back to the studio to start a composition. This photo shows my first step in laying out the composition. I believe in color!
I am always looking for new ways to present the shoe or in this case the boot,I had this vision of joining the leg and the boots together and this is what I came up with.
In all my work I run the watercolors a bit to give my work the fluidity I am known for.
I enjoy the way this piece curves and lends to a rainbow effect.
