2012 Sunflowers by Jani Lori

5x7 oil on linen panel
Every year at this time I buy sunflowers and paint them alla prima. This years annual sunflower painting is 5x7. Previous years I painted large California sunflowers on 24x30 canvas but could not find the big ones this year. The head of these were only two inches but quite beautiful so I decided on a smaller format.  Available at CFAI galley link below...

Pink Pipes II

Happy with the way this turned out! Looking forward to more pipe paintings. Can't help but be intrigued by the pipe sculptures that are in our everyday environments. I wonder how the color it is determined that they are painted. I pass by this one everyday and just love it!

The Project by Jani Lori

On the easel is a 24x30 of the project. After a memorial service this summer, while the adults were talking and grieving, the kids were busy outside. When asked what they were doing they cheerfully replied "the project". Using wonderful kid imaginations they had gathered rocks, sticks, dirt, branches, banana peels, and assorted objects and built a sculpture on the sidewalk. Leave it to kids to demonstrate how life goes on. I snapped a photo on my cell phone and remembered it this week. It was a good "project" for me too. What are you up to?

"Autumn's First Kiss, Cape Porpoise, 7x5 ,by Maryanne

"Autumn's First Kiss, Cape Porpoise, 7x5 oil on Italian wood panel-$99 by Maryanne Jacobsen

I really dislike painting this small, but I wanted to try out these Panelli Olio fine wooden panels. The oil primed panels are quite expensive, but I really enjoyed painting on the surface. I'm sure I'll buy more in some larger sizes as the surface was simply awesome to paint on.

When we visited Maine, we spent a couple days at Kennebunkport. It's quite a lovely place with world class shopping and restaurants, but my husband and I always enjoy a more simplistic style, so we avoided the fancy Inns and expensive restaurants completely. We had dinner the first night at the Cape Pier Chowder House restaurant in Cape Porpoise, which is a quaint little fishing village on the fringes of upscale Kennebunkport. Lobster shacks line the piers and colorful boats fill the harbor with ample painting material! The setting at the restaurant is very simple, but the views of sunsets are lovely and you have your choice of sitting inside or outside on the pier. It was a little chilly that night so we ate inside and I ordered two whole lobsters for only $19.99 which includes coleslaw and corn on the cob! Now where else in the world can you get a bargain like that?
