I don't really understand what it is about water that makes our blood pressure drop, why it is so appealing  to most everyone.

During the hot, steamy summer months, I often wonder why we live in Florida, but this time of the year, there is no doubt.

This has been very hard to post, because the colors don't look exact on my monitor. I have spent a lot of time trying to get it exact, but it still doesn't satisfy me, and it may look different on your computer. At any rate, this is close, but the sky in the actual painting is warmer than it looks here.

Pretty in Pink, 6x6 Oil Painting by Carmen Beecher

This was a commission to do flamingos, and I always enjoy using my favorite color. Lately I feel surrounded by pink; as I drove up to my house the other day it struck me just how much pink is going on in my front yard. I have a very large frangipani tree and clumps of pink lilies blooming; it looks like the wedding scene in "Steel Magnolias."

My friend Sally has a garden full of beautiful roses. Whenever I visit her, she has them placed around the house in different vases and I always am eager to snatch some photos for references for future paintings.

I like the way this painting came out. The impasto in the flowers is hard to see from a monitor, but there is beautiful harmony between the flowers and the background. Purple Rain III, a Florida Springtime Oil Landscape by Judy Batterson

The 8x8 oil paintings side by side give the image of a large landscape. The tabebuia trees and oaks are balanced, but the stream is off balance to give the effect of depth. The pink and purple impasto blossoms slowly rain onto the ground. The foreground flowers heighten the spring colors.
