Floral Still Life, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Flower Still Life, 12x12x1.5" Oil, "Garden Bounty"

I picked these flowers (peony and hydrangea)  from my garden, and placed them in sunlight.

I have to admit, I struggled with this piece.  I started with a brush, but after much frustration, I turned to my trusty palette knife.  In the end, I am happy with the values, and the glow on the hydrangea on the rigfht.  And the colors, love the colors.  In fact, the more I look at it....the happier I get!

So the moral of this story is, don't give up!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my dear granddaughter, Courtney!!

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Mountain Landscape Painting, 6x8" Oil, "High in the Sky"

If you live in Colorado, you probably don't consider 6,000+ feet as high in the sky.  That is the altitude of Water Rock Knob, North Carolina, which is depicted in this daily painting

I have just returned from a week touring Colorado.  It is incredibly beautiful and wild.  Where else can you go to see a herd of antelope grazing, or big horn sheep!  The prairie is as gorgeous as the mountains.  I wasn't expecting the beauty of rolling hills, of mother deer with their fawns walking through the waist high grasses.

But this painting is from a kinder, gentler mountain.  What is high in the Blue Ridge is a starting point in the Rockies!  I love both places.  Being a flatlander, I feel blessed to be able to visit these stunning landscapes.

Thanks for viewing my blog today.

Too Hot To Handle is an oil painting done in the palette knife technique. You can almost feel the extreme heat of the day radiating from the sun to the ground and rising in a fog. Done with a very limited palette.

Cow Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Mooooooo" by Carol Schiff

I posted another cow painting lately, which reminded me that I had another cow daily painting that I had never posted.  This 8x10" oil painting is on a masonite panel.

This is a friendly North Carolina cow.  She was part of a herd that included one calf.  I was surprised to see that as soon as I came up to the field and pulled out my camera, the mother of the calf immediately herded her to the back of the field.  Camera shy......or a helicopter mom?

A friend inquired about the horns on the cow.  A little research informed me that many species of bovines included males and femals with horns.

I like a black frame on this piece....it really helps to pop the painting!

I am very happy with the understated color which makes the brighter hues really pop.  I am not sure if it would be call an abstract or impressionistic.......what do you think?

What I do know, I really enjoyed painting it and want to try it again and go BIG!

Cityscape Painting "Cafe St Martin" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

FRESH OFF THE EASEL...

A Cafe of my imagination...somewhere in a special town in Rhode Island. The East Side, Newport, or any of the historic waterfront towns, like Wickford Harbour would be a dream come true. I think it should be a cozy B&B. Maybe I should move it to another climate...say Key West? I think it's time to stop daydreaming, after all, I need to prepare for my someday Gallery.

Painted with my favorite instrument.....a palette knife.  I like the way I can transition from one color to another with my knives.  I kept this painting quite smooth in comparison with many of my palette knife works

Abstract Seascape, Daily Painting, "Seascape Sunrise" SOLD

Now that the festivities are over, it is time to get back to work.  I love a vacation, but it is a good feeling to get back to my routines and spend time in the studio again.

SOLD

I am still working on commission portraits, so it feels good to go to the other side and do a light-hearted abstract piece.

Living close to the ocean, the sea turns up in many of my abstracts.

Have a great day!

Landscape, "Barn on Thomas Valley Road" 6x8" SOLD

When we are in the mountains of North Carolina, we pass this barn on our way to town.  It sits between the mountains on the shores of the Tuckaseegee River, on a beautiful little winding road.

I love the rural life style.  It reminds me of my childhood in Ohio.  I never lived on a farm, but my cousins did and I would visit often.  In these fast paced days of rushing from one spot to another, those lazy, hazy days of the past seem very attractive.  I am fortunate to get a taste of that life now and then.

Hope you find a peaceful moment or two in your day.

One another note, I was checking my stats to what  referring URL's send traffic to my blog and noticed that  many of my readers come from one specific blog.......www.CarolMarine.blogspot.com.  Carol was kind enough to include  me on her blog list several years ago.  I know you are all familiar with her work as she is "Queen of Art Blogs"  but she is also a wonderful kind woman.  So, thank you Carol!  If you have not been to her blog today, please stop bye.

BRANDY, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

Brandy is a sweetheart of a dog.  She lives with a friend of mine.  Carla and Brandy spend time visiting nursing homes and bringing a little joy into the lives of the residents they meet.  I know how important this is because my mother lived in a nursing home.  She always tells me when someone brings a dog in.  She is a dog lover from way back and it is amazing how a minute or two with a dog will brighten her day.  Thanks, Carla!

Abstract Daily Painting,SOLD, Seascape, "Green Wave" 6x8"

Although I have been painting for over 20 years, I find, most of the time, it is a struggle, a case of give and take.  Some days I am pleased with the end results, some days, not so much!

This little painting is one I like.  It seemed to fall off my brush with very few strokes.  It is a very simple scene, and not to everyone's taste, but it made me feel good.

Thank you for viewing my little daily paintings.

He captured an image of this inquisitive blue jay.

I like the effect of this chunky black frame.  It really makes an impact on the wall and black frames always make color pop.

Have a great day and thanks for reading my blog today.
