American White Ibis
Ibis
Oil on canvas, 10 in. x 8 in.
The American White Ibis feeds in the shallow water along the edge of the shore. They are fairly common in Florida. The sun was shining on the bird's white plumage when I took my reference photo.

Daily Painting 1314 Blooming Water Lily
Portrait of a Dog
Dark Eyes,
Oil on panel, 8 in. x 6 in.
This is a portrait of my dog, Leo. He looked up from his nap while I took his photo. I've been sketching and taking pictures of my two dogs. His eyes are remarkable. I think it is important to get the eyes right in a pet portrait. If the eyes are right, the rest of the painting will follow.

A Day at the Beach, Beach Art by Judy Batterson

A day at the beach means palm trees, sand dunes, sea oats, a sandy path perhaps with a treasure from the sea, and sailboats catching the ocean breeze. I put all of these in this painting to capture the feel of a Florida beach day. The only thing missing is you! 5 x 7" original oil.

Studying Seagulls
Study of Gull
Watercolor, 8 in. x 6 in.
I did a preliminary drawing of a seagull from life, then I painted a watercolor. A few gulls stayed fairly close to my chair while I studied them. They stood fairly still while they groomed themselves and took short naps.

"Blue Door-Provence", 5x7, oil on board-by Maryanne Jacobsen

"Blue Door-Provence", 5x7, oil on board-$150- by Maryanne Jacobsen
What's not to like about Provence?
Old medieval villages perched on mountainsides like teetering wedding cakes bask in the golden sunlight all year long- the limestone turning from orange to soft pink as the sun sinks lower into the horizon at sundown. Bright blue doors and shutters provide just the right impressionist vibration against that orange glow of the old walls, and the various mountain ranges (Alps, Vaucluse and Luberon) fade to soft purples and grayish blues as they recede into the distance of the backdrop.
I recently finished Deborah Lawrenson's beautiful book, "The Lantern", and I have wanted to do another painting of Provence while her vibrant imagery of the region is still fresh in my mind. The setting for this modern Gothic romantic novel is Provence, and I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves all things Provence! Please check out the book here, and take a moment to visit Deborah's lovely blog here.
I hope to do more paintings of Provence in the future, and Deborah was generous in sending me some photos of that glorious golden light falling into bewitching patterns across her lovely property in Provence. The scene above is typical of the little villages that can be found throughout Provence, each having their own distinct personalities. As an impressionist painter, I am very envious of that lovely soft, diffused light quality that pervades the Mediterranean region.

Morning Palm
Diane Mannion, MORNING PALM, 6x6" oil
Some mornings, it's too beautiful to think about walking the dogs, going to the gym, or even painting. Just happy to look across the street and see the sun rise behind the neighbors house.

Daily Painting 1310 Thunderheads Out West
Fiery Sunset, Tropical Sunsets in Red and Oranges by Judy Batterson

Every sunset is different. Sometimes the sun seems so close that it is like a ball of fire turning the surroundings red. This sunset had fiery streaks in the sky which were reflected in the water. The palms were silhouetted against this breathtaking color. A true brilliance of light captured! 5 x 7" original oil painting.
