Florida Oranges, a Crate of Florida Citrus by Judy Batterson

What is better than an orange from Florida? A crate of oranges!! The inspiration for this painting came from a vintage post card. I took the idea and added depth and color along with the orange crate label and orange blossoms. A day without orange juice is like a day without sunshine! 5 x 7 original oil painting.

"The Seaward Inn Garden", 14x11, oil on canvas, plein air by Maryanne Jacobsen

"The Seaward Inn Garden", 14x11, oil on canvas, plein air by Maryanne Jacobsen

A vacation in New England would not be complete for us without a trip to Cape Ann. Once again we chose to stay at the lovely Seaward Inn in scenic Rockport. We had a beautiful large room on the second floor of the main house that looked directly out over the Atlantic and Gully Point. The room was called Lover's Cove and we decided to take a photo of the little room placard on the door.

Orange Grove, a Florida Citrus Industry Staple by Judy Batterson

Florida and orange groves go hand in hand. Citrus grows everywhere in the state, but the big groves are mainly in central and southern Florida. Rows of trees filled with oranges are a beautiful sight. Sandy roads give access to the trees for picking those oranges. Have you had your juice today?! 5 x 7" original oil painting.

Daily Painting 1304 Sunshine Flowers

I don't know what these are, they look a bit like allamandas, but they are smaller. I painted this from a photo I took awhile back at Heathcote Botanical Gardens. The painting is 5 x 7 inches, oil on plywood.

Daily Painting 1302 Stormy Weather

Its 5 x 7 inches, oil on plywood. Its been windy off and on all day today, we got the very edge of hurricane Irene, just enough to get our yard messy with palm fronds. We went to the beach and watched the kite boarders and big waves, it was a lot of fun. $100.

Red Pagoda, Scenic Orlando Lake Eola Park Attraction by Judy Batterson

In downtown Orlando, the beautiful city park surrounding Lake Eola boasts a unique fountain in the lake's center and a red Chinese pagoda on the shore. This pagoda has become a place for weddings and other events. The red stands out against the lush green palms and oaks. Swans and ducks like to swim near the walkway by the pagoda. Lake Eola is always a hub of activity for downtown, and the pagoda is a charming attraction there. 5 x 7" original oil painting.

"The Benefits of Recycling", 16x12, oil on board by Maryanne Jacobsen

"The Benefits of Recycling", 16x12, oil on board by Maryanne Jacobsen

It took me four days to paint "The Summer Kitchen" painting that I posted yesterday. At the end of the painting session I had a lot of mud left over from the three different palettes that I had been working from. They had already been sent into the freezer for the past three nights and in truth I was tired of saving them . Besides, they were a pretty dismal heap at that point with the exception of a big hunk of clean permanent rose. With the cost of good oil paint so ridiculous anymore, it always seems a tremendous waste to me to throw any of it away. So even though it was late, I decided to do one of my "Left-over paint" paintings. If you are a regular visitor to this blog, you've seen them before. They are pretty spontaneous and are always a lot of fun for me to do. I just swirl the paint around until a picture starts to emerge. Since I had been painting flowers and citrus for the past couple days, I guess it's no surprise that this is what emerged.

This painting is available for purchase. Just send me an email at maryannejacobsen@aol.com. To see more of my art, please visit my blog at Paint Dance.

Daily Painting 1300 SOLD Hidden Pond

SOLD I did this one today at the Treasure Coast Art Association's open studio. Its fun to paint there, lots of interesting conversations. This is a miniature oil, its 4 x 6 inches on plywood. I had made a background awhile ago on it, used up some nice colors that I had leftover on my palette. I hate throwing paint away! I finally saw some hints of the coconut palm and developed the painting from there.

The Point

Beauty of a day on the Hudson River today...there is a change in the air as summer slips away...
