Fall at River Walk, a Plein Air Impressionist Painting by Judy Batterson

It was a big adventure for this Florida artist to go on a painting trip to North Carolina in the Fall. My easel was set up at Valley River in Murphy, NC, where I was surrounded by beautiful fall leaves with rushing water flowing over rocks. This 6 x 6 original oil captured what I experienced.

"Dogwood Stems" Original Still Life Flower Painting, Dogwood Flower Art by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Springtime and dogwood go hand in hand. They are so delicate and simple, yet very intricate in design. Is it one of your favorites too?

1519 Early Morning Water Lilies Plein Air

This one is from last week mostly, brought it back to the park today.  I tweaked a couple of things.
The egret in the painting was there in that spot last week, he posed very nicely.  This week there were some white ibis there.

"Sunset on The Rocks" Original Watercolor, Seascape, Ocean Rocks Sunset Painting by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

This view from my kitchen window was particularly stunning one evening. The Maine coastline is a glorious place anytime of day. I could hear the squawking seagulls following the boat as the fishermen returned home with their precious cargo. Lobster anyone?

1518 Pink Blossoms

This is a fantasy painting, I was just playing.  There is this tree at Heathcote botanical gardens that sort of looks like this, has small pink flowers and  gnarly looking trunk and branches.  It was loosely based on that tree.     Its 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.

Fall Afternoon at Valley River Mountain, a Plein Air Painting By Judy Batterson

This Florida girl took a trip to the NC Mountains to see beautiful fall leaves. And by taking my easel and paints, I was able to capture some dazzling color on a small canvas. This painting sold right from my easel! A 6 x 6" original oil, painted on site.

FROM CANVAS TO METAL BY CAROL SCHIFF

I am happy to announce that my work has been licensed and reproduced by All My Walls Inc., a manufacturer of metal wall decor.  I had no idea how they would use my images as they didn't seem to fit in with the rest of their products.  After many months, they finally sent me images of the finished products.  I am posting just a few samples for you.

1517 Early Morning Water Lilies Plein Air Alla Prima

I started up the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast for the season today, at White City Park.  It was beautiful out, these pink lilies were all over in the center pond.  Saw some ibis and egrets.  I had a lot of fun painting with Jani-Lori and Marcie Brennan.

The painting is 10 by 8 inches, oil on masonite.  $200.

Abstract Landscape "God's Glory" by Carol Schiff, 14x18" Oil

We were driving through the fields of Georgia one morning, on one of our many journeys from Florida to North Carolina, when the sun burst over the horizon.  I was so happy I had my camera handy.

Does it show that I had a ball painting this one?

Maybe I went a little crazy with the colors.

Speaking of journeys, this is my second attempt at painting this image.  The first attempt was several years ago and is residing in Paris these days.

 It's a little more subdued.

Tall Palm, Tiny Island, Tropical Oil Painting by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

There are many tiny islands in the Keys with teeny tiny island cottages. Although the cottage I saw was old and weathered, I painted this one with fun island colors. The entire canvas was underpainted in blue, then many layers were added until the tall palm finished the landscape. I like the way the tiny house on the tiny island gives such a contrast to the tall palm in front of it. Such a fun painting and a joy to paint! Tall and tiny and tropical! 12" H x 36" W oil on canvas. Now hanging in an island house with a happy owner!

1516 Misty Morning Flamboyant Royal Poinciana

I painted this one awhile ago without the bird.  I do that often, birds are easier to paint on a dry painting.  I am relaxed because I know if I mess up the bird it is only the bird and not the background that has to be fixed.  So when I paint them on a dry panel, they usually go on fine the first time.

The trouble comes in when I have these paintings that are sitting around waiting for their birds to fly in and they don't get posted on my blog.

Its 10 x 8 inches, oil on masonite.  $200.

1515 Wind Rising over the Indian River

I did this as a demo for the St. Lucie County Art Association.  They were a real nice group and I had a good time.  They didn't ask any questions that were too hard to answer.  Well, I am not sure what year I started using a painting knife.

The painting is 12 x 16 inches, oil on masonite.  $500.

This is a view of Water Rock Knob, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, one of my favorite places in this world.

I painted the background and much of the foreground with a palette knife.

I tried to stay loose with my brushwork too.

Life is good in the mountains!

Late Morning on the Beach by Sally Shisler

Late Morning on the Beach by Sally Shisler
4x4" - 20135, AVAILABLE

Feeling a bit out of practice here!  Although this painting might look simple, it was really elusive and difficult to achieve just the right sense of lighting.  If you can believe it - I hung on through 4 tries.  This is not a Potthast study, rather my own reference embellished with a few details that I learned during the months of studies I did a while back.  Most difficult was trying to get the girls' legs and feet in just the right placement, shape and reflected light in order to manage the illusion of which leg is leading and which is following.  More to come I hope; thinking about more Potthast studies though....

Mini-Monet Water Lilies by Judy Batterson Florida Artist

These mini 3x3" oil paintings are individually painted one at a time. We have so many lakes and ponds with water lilies in Central Florida that it's easy to find different color blooms. A tiny painting on a little easel can be placed about anywhere and always gives a little beauty wherever it is.

Hydrangea, 6x6 Oil on Canvas by Carmen Beecher

Hydrangeas are very hard to paint. Each one is like a bouquet. They grow in lush profusion in Washington State, in colors I never knew possible.

Flowers are the alphabets of angels, whereby they write on the fields and hills mysterious truths. ---
