Beach Oil Painting, Florida Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Tropical Painting

I recently returned home from four wonderful days on Amelia Island, Florida.  The ocean is often very calm there....not a good surfing place.  One evening we stood on the beach and watched dusk descend over the water.

purchase here
It was the first time I have been inspired to do a landscape in quite awhile.  I felt very relaxed, just painting this peaceful scene.  Hope you like it!

Have a great day!

Cityscape Painting "Cafe St Martin" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

FRESH OFF THE EASEL...

A Cafe of my imagination...somewhere in a special town in Rhode Island. The East Side, Newport, or any of the historic waterfront towns, like Wickford Harbour would be a dream come true. I think it should be a cozy B&B. Maybe I should move it to another climate...say Key West? I think it's time to stop daydreaming, after all, I need to prepare for my someday Gallery.

White Rose Painting, 8x10x1.5" Flower Still Life, Flower Painting, Floral Painting

Birthday Flowers!!

purchase here
Way back in December, my son and his wife sent me some beautiful flowers for my birthday.  The first thing I did was photograph them.  Then I forgot about the photos!

I finally found them last week, and decided to try my hand at one.  I am very intimidated  by flowers.  They seem so complex and I rarely meet that sweet spot between too little or too much detail.  I am not so sure about this one, but I do like the colors.

Try, try and try again!

Recently Sold Paintings, Daily Paintings, Small Oil Paintings

I was looking back through my sales for the end of the year, and thought I would post some original paintings that have sold.

It is easy to spot a trend with sales of prints, but not so much for originals.

This piece was inspired by a sunset on Key Largo.  It was a softer, hazy day, but the sunset was just as beautiful as the more showy, vibrant displays we usually see.

A Chunky, Textured, Colorful Piece of Art That Makes Me Smile, Abstract Landscape, 8x8x3" Oil Painting

Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.

Purchase here

You know how I love color and texture and this little painting has it all.

I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique.  It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room.  I cannot help but smile each time I look at it.

The canvas was a mistake.  I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it.  What could I possibly do with it?  Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect!

Have a fantastic day!

It's been a very busy February, and it's not even over yet!
And, March promises to be just as busy too!

I recently started offering 3 day private abstract painting workshops in my own studio.  I only have room for one person at a time, but that gives me the opportunity to devote myself completely to the student.  I begin my session by covering composition and color theory (without getting into scientific jargon).  Color and composition are the most important elements in abstract painting.  I love guiding the student as she develops her thought process and brings it to fruition on the canvas.  I also include lots of information about selling art online, as well as how to dispose of rinse water in an ecologically safe manner.

Join me for 3 fun days of intense learning as you break out of a painting rut and push your work to the next level!

Impressionism Seascape,Coastal Art Painting "Unexpected Pathway" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Softly swaying, this lone palm caught my attention. Have I ever walked down this pathway  before? The sand is so soft and deep.  It appears I'm the first to travel this path in a while,  there are no prints  before mine. The atmosphere has a misty quality,  almost as though a  gentle rain is about to burst  from the Heavens.   Finding this pathway...pure joy!12"x16" Oil on Canvas

Craft Day, Moon Glow, Small Textured Acrylic Art 6x7"

Today, I am taking a play day!

I painted this small piece as a sample for a client and I have to admit, it was very relaxing.  I textured the board with molding paste and then painted with acrylic.  I was trying for a somewhat antique feel.

It is very simple, but I did enjoy playing.

Abstract Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Textured Art, "Rainy Day in Albany" 10x10x3" Contemporary Art

This painting was a happy accident!  Well, maybe not the painting, but the total effect.

I purchased some art supplies online and was very surprised (and maybe dismayed) to see that two sizes of canvases we actually 3" deep!  How did that happen?  I thought about returning them, but after calculating the return shipping, I realized that would not work.

purchase here
So what to do?  They seemed so in-your-face, not the right canvas for a delicate rose.

I decided abstract was the way to go.

I wanted lots of texture, but still need contract in the texture.

Yes, it can go on the wall.....but why?  I love it sitting on a shelf, pretending to be a sculpture.

And guess what!  A manufacturer loved it too, so it is licensed and may be appearing in a department store near you soon, pretending to be a pillow or maybe a duvet.

Thanks for reading my blog today.
