Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Fiddle Head Painting, Botanical print, 11x14x1.5 Oil

This small oil painting came about because of a trip I took to North Carolina in the spring. I live in Florida, so we don't get a lot of spring flowers, and when I saw this bed of ferns coming to life, I had to paint them.

I was surprised how quickly they grew, with obvious growth from day to day.

I decided to use a dark background to really highlight the ferns and keep my palette restricted to greens, blues and purples. I have been pleased with the results of this painting, which is a departure from my usual style. Blues are very difficult to photograph accurately and although the background color appears to be a deep blue, the actual color is close to a black,

This piece is available  at the link above as an original, or here as a giclee'  canvas print in the size of your choice.

Thanks for viewing my blog today.  I hope you take time every day,  to smell the roses.

Floral Still Life Series, #2, Daily Painting, 6x8"

I have been working on a series of small floral still life paintings in the past week or two.  The images are all from small floral arrangements that I cut from my garden and photographed over the five years.  I never painted them, but always kept the images in my files.

$96 + 6.50

It's odd how you ignore something, something you may see many, many times, and then one day you look at it and magic happens.

When I noticed one of these little pictures last week, it was like the first time I had seen it.  The strong shapes drew me in immediately.

Since then, I have been in a floral frenzy.....painting one after another.  The common factor, other than that they are all flowers, is that each image had back lighting, sometimes strong, sometimes not so much.

So here is #2 in the series.  I will be posting them all, but not in painting order and probably not every day.

This week I am doing several portrait commissions.  After a few weeks of struggling with those projects, I will be ready to return to these simple and refreshing daily florals.

Bear Gap on the Blue Ridge, Oil Painting of N Carolina Mountains by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

"Bear Gap on the Blue Ridge" Finally finished this mountain painting for a friend. We had a picnic here last fall, and the scenery was beautiful. But it was pretty high up for this Florida girl! Oil on canvas.

Small Seascape | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Anatomy of a Wave by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil Original

This small seascape is a study of a cresting wave. Ask any surfer, it's all about the waves.  Waves appear to be all the same, but they are all unique.  I am finding that out, more and more as I paint one of my loves ......seascapes.

Lifeguard Shack, 8x6 Oil on Canvas, Seascape

Palm Beach has not only luxurious homes and an abundance of Bentleys, it has a lovely public beach. Our state is quite diverse; we have scenes like the one above, also miles of pastureland with cattle, citrus groves, farmland, swamps, lakes, the Everglades, and theme parks. We have Carl Hiassen, who writes books about outlandish Florida characters. They are fiction, but I understand that his ideas come from the news. We are the state of mermaids, manatees, and hanging chads.

Art Sale, Daily Painting, Tropical Landscape, "Coconuts from Sanibel" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

It's Wednesday, and that means art sale!  I like to think of it as a little reward for you loyal readers of my blog.  Today's painting is a peek at a tropical landscape scene.

purchase here
95 minus 20
This is one of two paintings I did of this tree, after a visit to Sanibel Island.  Sanibel Island is in the southern half of the state of Florida and considered as "tropical".  I live in Central Florida, which is considered "sub-tropical".  Being in the sub-tropics, we don't get coconuts growing on our palms, so I was attracted to something a little different.

Now that you know the story behind the painting, let's talk about the sale.  When you purchase the painting at the link above, you will be charged $95. plus shipping.  As soon as I am notified of your payment, I will credit your PayPal or credit card account $20.  That will bring the cost of the painting to $75. You must write ART SALE on the order to get the rebate!

Daily Painting, Seascape Painting, Ocean Painting, Beach Painting, "Celebrating Blue" 16x20x1.5" Oil

I wanted to do a seascape, or actually a beach painting, somewhere between an abstract and impressionism.  If this looks a little familiar, it is because I posted the study for this work a month or two ago.

Purchase here
495 + shipping

I wanted to record just my memories and impressions of trips to the beach.  I painted with a knife and tried to work quickly.

I tried not to think too much about the colors I was using or where I was putting them, but tried to keep it really instinctive.

I wanted plenty of texture in this piece.

It was a fun exercise, although I wish I had done a larger piece.  Maybe someday I will.

Thanks for viewing my blog today.
