I've got a thing for purples, lavenders, blues, blah, blah, blah.

detail
I was in the Land O' Trees, better known as western North Carolina, when I painted this.  In the summertime, I get green overload here.  Green mountains, green grass, green leaves.  You cannot escape green.   Maybe that is why doing a purple and blue landscape appealed to me.  More to come!

Environmental Art Painting, Elephant "Endangered" by International Contemporary Artist Arrachme

The beloved elephant though out history has been hunted for its tusks. Here you see the kind hearted giant hiding in the jungle foliage. Flower Palette Knife Painting, Hydrangea Painting,Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Textured Floral

While everyone is running around, with thoughts of turkey on their minds, I sit at the computer, remembering my lovely garden from last summer.  Hydrangea is always a favorite for me.

Purchase here
I painted with a palette knife, and left it very impressionistic, almost abstract.  I wanted to highlight the colors and not the form.

I have been struggling with my oils for several months now, but I was happy with the results on this piece, which has given me hope.

Thank you for viewing my blog today and I wish you all a HAPPY TURKEY DAY.

Florida Coffee Shop Painting,Coastal Landscape "Coffee Anyone?" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Meeting with my plein air group...always an adventure. Where will we go this week? Ah! A perfect spot. This wonderful place with its European atmosphere...stunning marina views and high rise living. There's shopping at your fingertips with everything imaginable from art galleries and boutiques to scrumptuous dining...OH and yes, the best little coffee shop ever. Sitting outside and listening to the music and sipping coffee after that delightful meal. Does it get any better?

Botanical Fine Art Painting, Nature,Butterfly "LOBSTER CLAW HELICONIA WITH MOSAIC BUTTERFLY" The Art of Nature, Fine Art by Mindy Lighthipe

The heliconia in this painting is referred to as a "Lobster Claw" because of it shape, size and color. The butterfly in the painting is commonly know as the Mosaic Butterfly. The latin name is Colubra dirce. I have encountered both of these species on my many trips to Central America. I really enjoyed putting them together as I like the brilliant color of the flower with the muted, earth tones of the highly patterned underside of the butterfly.

Abstract Giclee Print, Daily Painting, Teal and Green Abstract

I have been in an experimental mood lately.  My oils have been gathering dust as I pour acrylics and alcohol inks.

Purchase here

This piece is done on yupo paper, which really isn't paper at all, but a  very slick plastic type of surface favored by watercolorists.  It is an alcohol ink piece.

The original is not available, but I am offering this as a giclee print in several sizes.

We are in the process of moving and my mind seems scattered these days.  I will try to continue to post during the process, but please bare with me.  Eventually, we will be settled and my posts will become more regular.

Have a great day!

Flower Painting, Iris Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" on Canvas Panel

I spent most of the spring in the mountains of North Carolina, surrounded by flowers everywhere.  They must have the perfect environment for flowers, and I loved every minute of it.  This is one of the beautiful iris' I photographed during my stay.

purchase here
I had a difficult time getting this painting to the finishing point, but turns out, my real struggle was in trying to get a decent photograph of it.  I find that blues and greens tend me merge when photographed, especially blues.  I took many photos of this painting, under different conditions, but I believe many of the subtle color changes were lost.  Note to self:  Don't do blue and green paintings, and don't do very dark paintings.....also impossible (for me) to photograph well.

In any event, thanks for viewing my art today.

Windmill, 6x9 Mixed Media on paper by Carmen Beecher

I painted good-quality watercolor paper with bronze acrylic paint, then used liquid medium to transfer the windmill from a magazine print. I added the tulips to make it more interesting. It's too bad that the metallic effect of the bronze can't be fully appreciated when looking at it online.

I would like to report, that my tube of white paint is lasting longer, but it is too soon to tell.

Regardless, I am pleasently surprised with the color I achieved here, so hopefully I am on the right track.

Daily Painting, Oil, Animal, Sheep, 8x10

My friend, Donna Vines, took a trip to Northern England earlier this year.  She was kind enough to share her photos with me.  I have painted several of them and I could not resist this small lamb walking the moor.

I painted with palette knife and brush and tried to get lots of texture in it.  I liked the rugged  feel.  I have never been on the moors, but I think they would feel rugged and cold and windy.

I painted a ram a few months ago, which I like to think is this lamb's daddy.  You can view it here

Have a wonderful week!

Sunset Oil Painting "Sunset After Sandy" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

This painting is that of a photograph taken by Michael Schor Photography, Rockaway Park, New York. It was painted with Michael's permission. "An observation...(by Michael)...how man made beauty (the boardwalk and buildings) can be destroyed in a day but God's beauty (the sunset) is everlasting." Michael named it " Sunset After Sandy". This is my rendition of that beautiful photograph taken by a very gifted artist.

This painting is SOLD, but prints are available HERE

Small Seascape, Daily Painting,, Small Oil Painting, "Favorite Beach", 6x8" Oil

I don't have the answer, but I know I know I enjoy painting the scenes almost as much as being there, taking a deep breath of that sea breeze or crisp mountain air.

Since spring is just around the corner (thankfully), I named this "April Muse".

Turns out, it is actually a 3-D painting, as in places the paint stands out .5" from the canvas.

Hope you enjoy your day!

White Rose Painting, 8x10x1.5" Flower Still Life, Flower Painting, Floral Painting

Birthday Flowers!!

purchase here
Way back in December, my son and his wife sent me some beautiful flowers for my birthday.  The first thing I did was photograph them.  Then I forgot about the photos!

I finally found them last week, and decided to try my hand at one.  I am very intimidated  by flowers.  They seem so complex and I rarely meet that sweet spot between too little or too much detail.  I am not so sure about this one, but I do like the colors.

Try, try and try again!

Animal Oil Painting, "DUCKS GALORE" by Carol Schiff, 12x24" Oil. SOLD

A very nice lady from Alabama sent me  images of her family's six black ducks, along with a request that I paint them for her.

SOLD

Actually, the images only had five ducks.  One of the ducks had gone to ducky heaven and she wanted to include him (her) too.  I liked this image because all the ducks were looking in one direction.  I added the missing duck on the end, as though he had reappeared and the others were greeting him back into the flock.

If you relate to the missing duck...I hope you find your flock soon :)

I like texture in my art and one of my favorite tricks, is to take a failed painting, leave the texture and use the panel again.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Many artists use their canvases more than once, but convential  wisdom is you must sand it down.  I
sometimes do that too, but if I want to do a little expressionism, I say, why destroy all that lovely texture?

Thanks for reading my blog today.
