Abstract Environmental Art , Contemporary Painting "Wind Rose II" by International Contemporary Artist Arrachme

“Wind Rose 2” was created for an exhibition where artworks were created for The Fortress of Sagres in Portugal, July 2017. The original “Wind Rose” is made of earth and sand. It was created by Prince Henry to navigate the Mediterranean in the fifteenth century and exists today with only requiring one restoration following a hurricane.

Arrachme’s abstract interpretation of this place was intuitively commenced before the artist was invited to the project. The collaberation between the location and the canvas exisited across a great distance which was the perspective of the exhibition.

The original is mixed media using many layers of different viscosity of paint during the process that includes appling papers and gold leaf. There is also a minimum of six thin pours. Finally, after completing the drying, a contrast of matt to gloss varnish finishes are applyed to bring out varying degrees of depth within the layers.
