Small Barn Landscape Painting, Textured Art, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Original Oil. SOLD

This old barn, sits near our home, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  I see it every day and knew I would paint it eventually.

SOLD

I painted with brush and palette knife, creating texture for interest.  I popped the autumn colors, for the same reason.

I almost always use a black frame, as it really shows off the colors.

Thanks for stopping bye today.

Thistle Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Thistle and Meadow by Carol Schiff | 6x12x.75" Oil SOLD

It seems to me the beauty of the fields and meadows of the North Carolina mountain country is even more stunning than usual this summer.  During my trips there, I walk the country roads each morning.  Every day seems more spectacular than the day before.  Since returning home, I have tried to capture the scenes on canvas.

SOLD
The purple thistles sparkled against the golden fields.  One morning, I picked a beautiful bouquet of wildflowers, some would call them weeds.  The entire state seemed to be covered in daylilies, blooming wild on the sides of mountains and in roadside ditches.

Daily Landscape Painting, "A Little Bit Country" 6x8 Oil SOLD

I have had this image in my files for several years.  Each time I tried to paint it, I failed. But, I kept the image on my memory stick, always nagging me, like waving a red flag at a bull.

This time I was happy with the results.  It's is not a particularly difficult scene.  I don't know what caused me so much trouble.  All I know is that every nine or 10 months or so, I would give it a try and then wipe it off.

SOLD
The attraction was the strong light in the mid-ground and the back lighting on the fence.  I am happy to finally delete this from my "things to paint" list.

Have you ever had this experience with a specific scene?  If so, how did you overcome the challenge?

Barn Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Georgia O'Keeffe | Georgia's Barn by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil

There is something special about this barn painting.  This small oil painting is my attempt to duplicate one of Georgia O'Keeffe's barn series.  I was unaware the she had a barn series, until my painting group, Pieces of Eight, spent a day studying her art and trying to duplicate it.

Duplicating the art of a master is an acceptable learning practice as long as the original artist is given credit, which I have done by signing this work as "after O'Keeffe".  It is why you see so many art students sketching in museums.

To be honest, I chose this work because it was such a simple, flat little piece.  The thought of giving her flowers or skulls a try did not appeal to me.

The more I worked on this little piece, the more I began to enjoy it and see it's charm.  I ended the day very happy with my choice.

Thanks for viewing my blog today.
