Cuba Libre, Oil Painting of Old Havana by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

The Cuban culture has had a wonderful influence on Florida. The food and music as well as the zest for life has inspired not only paintings but many restaurants, too. This painting was named after a restaurant that features a wall that looks like Old Havana. 16x20" oil on canvas.

Rainier Meadow, 10x8 Landscape Oil Painting, Pacific Northwest by Carmen Beecher

The Pacific Northwest is so beautiful, and so different from my home state of Florida, which is flat as a flitter and doesn't have gigantic trees. Our country has as diverse a landscape as could be imagined, and it's one of the things I love about it. Being in this meadow made me want to burst into the opening song in Sound of Music, but I don't like to embarrass my husband.

Garden Landscape Art Painting, Buddha Art "A Happy Place, Buddha's Garden" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Imagine walking through the woods on a beautiful sunny day and coming across this Buddha in the middle of a bamboo stand. What a peaceful place...I enjoyed the play of light on the forest floor.I think its time to meditate!

Tropical Landscape, Palette Knife 8x10 Painting, SOLD

Recently, several of my paintings were reproduced on solid wood plank hand distressed panels by Artehouse LLC.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I have never posted this original artwork which is among those being marketed.

These palms, next to the intercoastal waterway on the east coast of Florida, are shown during the "golden hour".  Golden hour refers to that brief time when the setting sun bathes the landscape is a golden glow.

I tried to capture that glow in my painting, but it is a poor version of the glorious view I had that November afternoon.  Even photographs pale next to the real thing.

Daily Painting, "Bunny", 6x8, Oil

My youngest grandson was visiting our home when he spied this rabbit in our yard.  He and his Mom are really big animal lovers.

NFS

So, when we found this rabbit, I grabbed the camera and got out of the way.  Trevor managed to get a very nice shot of it through the window.

He was very excited when I surprised him with this little painting, and today, it hangs in a place of honor in his bedroom.

Palm Afternoon, a Tropical Florida Landscape Oil Painting by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

This 16x20" oil landscape captured an Old Florida coastal feeling. The late afternoon sun made light and shadows appear in a secluded cove. I painted it hoping the viewer would feel the balmy breezes and tropical tranquility.

Daily Painting, "Waves", Seascape, 6x8", Oil, SOLD

I enjoy trying to capture the feel of the surf rushing to shore on my canvas.

The ocean seems to have a different character and color each time I visit.  This is the east coast of Florida, while California is much more rugged and has a deep rich blue hue.

I like to use my daily paintings very informally in my home.  Just prop them up where ever the mood strikes! No frame necessary!

Breakfast in the Garden, Springtime in Florida Breakfast Outdoors by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Silver coffee pot and beautiful outside table setting for breakfast welcomed spring weather. Serving the morning meal in a garden was a special moment. 8x10" oil on canvas board.

FIRST GARDENIA, 6x8, OIL,SOLD

I don't do a lot of flowers, they frustrate me, but I am planning to try a few. I felt I had to give this one a try. I was on my way to paint with my group, wondering what I would work on, and when I stepped outside, my gardenia bush had it's first bloom of the season. I took it along, was not successful but tried again later in the day.

Daily Painting "Morning Sail" 6x8 Oil Landscape SOLD

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
--Mark Twain

Purchase Here
SOLD

The thing about sailing, is that it looks like a lot more fun than it actually is.  I know, I know, that's just my opinion, so please don't get upset!  I enjoyed my days on the boat and I still love to spend an afternoon sailing.

Now, when I see a sail boat heading out on a beautiful sunny day, it seems like a little piece of paradise.
The real thing  almost never beats out imagination.  It's easy to forget the day the sail ripped or the day we sailed home in a raging storm with lightening strikes all around us.

Today, I will imagine....and paint about it.

Happy Birthday to my baby girl, Shelly!

Sunset Seascape Beach Wildlife Bird Oil Painting "Seaside Dining" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

At the shoreline everything is so still and quiet at days end. The only sound is the breaking of the softly rolling waves as they make their journey up to lap at the sandy beach. Even the birds seem to know it's time to settle in, have a snack and quietly watch a truly magnificent sunset.

I have always been drawn to wildlife.  When my son was small, I did a series of counted cross stitch pictures for his room.  I still have a few....a bear and a bobcat.

I think these would be terrific in a boy's room too.

Brunch in the Garden, Plein Air Florida Springtime Landscape by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

When the yellow tabebuia trees bloom in early spring, it is a perfect time to set up brunch in the garden. And this was a fancy brunch with silver coffee pot and lovely table settings. Fun to paint. We need more gentle times like this to enjoy outdoor beauty. 8x10 oil on canvas board.

Abstract Landscape Painting | Contemporary Art | Palette Knife Painting | HUES by Carol Schiff | 18x36x1.5" Oil

I wanted to do an abstract landscape in a larger size than I have worked with in the past.  I remembered driving through the fields of Georgia just as the sun broke over the horizon one morning, and decided to paint based on that memory.

I enjoyed the experience of painting on a larger scale and tried hard to keep the freshness of my smaller abstracts.

We used to say that photos never lie, but as you know, that is not true these days.  I just returned from a short trip to New York City with my daughter and grandson.  He had lots of fun taking photos that lie.  This is one of my favorites.....

We also walked by a sports show being filmed on TV.  That is my grandson in the background, making like the circus strong man.  Hope they didn't mind!

"Our Three by Sally Shisler"

Our Three
4x4" #201505
Oil on linen
Please email me at

Been a while since I wrote much about my process with each of these paintings.  I miss doing that...
This piece ended up being painted with small brushes.  There was too much going on to be able to get it right with my knives. Fun!
I have moved into a HUGE new studio space - rather unexpectedly after a friend's boyfriend was leaving his old 'storage unit' in a very old warehouse in my town.  Old orange processing plant.  From the outside it looks really rough around the edges - shows it's age.  But inside is glorious!  Space like a 'real' studio space should have.  Which is good since I'm in the process of painting several new large pieces for my next show - a 'pop up' that will be in Savannah GA in May.
I've also been asked by a new art gallery - Hue Gallery - in Wichita KS to join their roster of represented artists.  Getting my paintings framed and ready to go for shipping.  I'm very excited about this - it's the first time my paintings will travel in a shipping crate - scary.
