I believe in color!
I am always looking for new ways to present the shoe or in this case the boot,I had this vision of joining the leg and the boots together and this is what I came up with.
In all my work I run the watercolors a bit to give my work the fluidity I am known for.
I enjoy the way this piece curves and lends to a rainbow effect.

"Jacaranda Tree in Bloom" by Maryanne Jacobsen

"Jacaranda Tree in Bloom", 12x16, oil on canvas-$550

Last week I was driving through a Sarasota neighborhood and I was struck by the image of a jacaranda tree in full bloom. Here in Florida, these gorgeous trees fill with beautiful purple blossoms for only 2 weeks in the entire year, and so it is always a treat to see them start blooming in early May.

This one was at its peak the day that I drove by and the kindly gentlemen whose yard is graced by this lovely tree was gracious in allowing me to take a few photos of it.

As you can see, the tree was making a purple carpet fit for a queen to walk upon! If you would like to purchase this painting, please visit my blog at PaintDance.

Art From the Beach

Hanging Out, 8 in. x 10 in., Pencil

Here is a revised version of a drawing that I did last year. I keep returning to this image and I hope to do a painting as well. This scene is from a photograph taken at Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida. I love to draw people who are outside, doing ordinary things. Hanging around at the beach is a typical thing for teenagers to do here in Florida. The lifeguard towers are fun to climb on after the lifeguards have left. This drawing took a long time because of its complexity. To purchase this artwork or to see more art visit Sharon Guy Art.

Daily Painting by Sally Shisler, "Beauty & Grace"

"Beauty & Grace" (10x8")-201047
Today's painting comes from a photo that I took last year on vacation at Anna Maria Island. I'm not sure what kind of flower this is. It's smaller than the trumpet angel, or angel trumpet (can't remember that name), and it's not any kind of lily that I know. I took some liberty with interpretation, so the details are not there. I wanted to pick up my brushes again so that I could find more subtleties in painting. And I kind of wanted to see if I could still do it. I've been hitting a wall lately with the knife work. Something about it isn't sitting well in my heart. Nor my spirit. I've spent too much time looking and relooking, and relooking at the finished pieces. I suppose hoping that the next time I look at it, I'll like it. That does happen from time to time. But I haven't been able to resolve it lately. It's way past time to move towards paintings with a higher degree of maturity. I think the brushes will get me there since I don't have to complete things alla prima, like with the knives. This painting has a romantic feel to it. I suppose after seeing so many other artists doing this (and doing it well), I wonder if I can pull off a bigger piece with these flowers as a secondary element in a figure painting. Fear!!! And then I have to ask myself if there is a better reason to try; something besides seeing if I measure up. It must be common for most artists to go through stages of identity crisis. The important thing will be to use the new inspiration I get from others works along with my own strengths and style. I feel like I'm going back to painting 101 - which really isn't a bad idea.

Dog Day Afternoon, paintings of dogs at beaches, Venice Florida dog beach painting

SOLD
"Dog Day Afternoon", 10x8, oil on wrapped linen-$195- SOLD through Collector's Gallery and Framery

Here in Venice Florida, we are fortunate to have a beach that is made exclusively for dogs! Dog lovers from far and about come here to just indulge their dogs, and as a dog lover myself, it is quite a feast for the eyes to observe these dogs in total freedom of movement!

For the past few months, I have had the honor of dog-sitting my son's
Vizsla, a type of hound-dog that is sleek and muscular and cries all the time....

At any rate, I took the dog to the beach near my home a couple of times and he absolutely was in his glory! He made friends with other dogs that were there, had a dog park that was fenced in where he could run around and be totally free, and then at last there was the lovely beach.... I just wish my golden retriever had had a chance to run around on this beautiful Gulf beach before she'd passed away! Many dogs like retrievers swim in the warm Gulf waters, some don't swim at all, but regardless of their nautical expertise, a good time is had by all the dogs that come to this lovely beach in Venice, Florida!

I grabbed a few pictures recently while I was at the dog beach, and today I decided to use one for a reference for the above painting. The colorful beach umbrella added a heightened sense of FUN to the scene, so please enjoy!

By the way, here is a cute YouTube video of one dog's adventure at the Venice Dog beach, which is called South Brohard Beach and Paw Park.

Scenes From the Beach

Castle Builders, Oil on Canvas, 12 in. x 9 in.

I painted most of this with a palette knife and thick paint. Children building castles on the beach is a common sight in Florida and makes a nice subject for a painting. I work from photographs, sketches and memory. I finished this little painting a few days ago and look forward to revisiting this subject. The light, soft colors remind me of Impressionism. My website is at Sharon Guy Art.

Daily Painting 1060 A day in the Gardens Plein Air Alla Prima

Its been one of those weeks, the fridge died Friday and I have been trying to keep food cold and find a new fridge that will fit where the old one was. Its kind of a small hole and the doors into the house aren't that big either. Finally found one Sunday and got it on Monday.

It sure felt good getting out and painting today at Heathcote Botanical Gardens. It was lovely out and afterwards one of my fellow painters treated me to lunch at Mangrove Matties!

The painting is 8 x 10, oil and mainly painting knife, it has lots of texture. $200.

Stillness On The Tomoka, Florida Oil Landscape of Palms, River, Egret by Judy Batterson in a painting sequence.

The finished painting!! This is the sixth photo in a sequence of a painting of the Tomoka River. It is now complete with the foreground of an egret and large trees. The highlights of the palms are finished as well as the birds flying in the distance. The river twists and turns among the mangroves with the sun reflecting in the water. This is natural, untouched "old Florida". For more Florida oil landscapes, go to www.judybatterson.com.

More Florida Bird Art

Gull, Oil on canvas, 12 in. x 9 in.

I spend a lot of time sketching and photographing birds at Siesta Beach. Now, every time I go there I worry about the oil slick that might be blown this way if the wind changes. This is what the edge of the Gulf Coast looks like when it the water and sand is clean and the wildlife is safe and healthy. For more art visit my website at Sharon Guy Art.
