Daily Painting, Beach Scene, "Reel Her In" 8x10" Palette Knife Painting

This is the second time I have painted this scene.  The first time, several years ago, was a small 5x7.  I wanted to paint it larger, but couldn't find the image on my computer.  When I finally found it...I didn't have the size canvas I wanted to use (14x18) so, because I was frustrated I did it on the 8x10.

I suppose this means I will repeat the process again at some unknown point in the future.

This time I painted with a palette knife and brush.  I like the texture that can be achieved with the knife.  I also have added some great "ocean" colors to my palette.

Who knows....maybe the next time I paint this scene, it will be an abstract!

This is the first painting.  Do you have a  preference?

Florida Coastal Landscape,Seascape Painting, "Kayaking II" Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Kayaking is always an adventure. One day I was thrilled to see two eagles soaring against the beautiful blue sky engaged in their acrobatic tumbling dance. You never know what is around the next corner. Alligators, or maybe today I'll come across a manatee...such gentle giants. The possibilities are endless!

Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Flower Painting, Floral Still Life "Hydrangea and Goldenrod" 8x6" SOLD

Another of my "chunky" floral still life.  The idea on these is to keep detail to a minimum with color, brushstrokes and shape catching you eye.

SOLD

I quickly sketched in very basic shapes, not being fussy but trying to capture enough of the flower shape to be recognizable.  I massed in dark under colors and then worked a little with local color.  Of course, I  pumped it up.

Abstract Mixed Media, "All In A Row" 4x12" Original

I find myself being drawn more and more to the abstract and mixed media area of art.  In May I attended a wonderful workshop given by Carol Nelson.  She fueled my desire with her creative techniques and materials.  Since then, I have been trying to develop my own techniques.

99.95 + shipping

I included some of Carol's techniques and some of my own.  I like this piece in both a horizontal format or in a vertical format.  The sides are painted and do not require framing.

It can hang on the wall or sit on a shelf.  It has just a touch of gold leaf to capture the light.
I have to admit.......I really enjoyed creating this.

Florida Coastal Landscape,Seascape Painting, Roses,"Coastal Sea Roses"Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Coastal Sea Roses is a palette knife done with oils. Imagine the pop of bright pink, lacey sea roses. Their fragrance and delicate look are so captivating. You just have to stop and smell the roses. Impatiens spilling out of an old wooden window box, eating chowder and clam cakes and can you smell that sea air?

This painting is SOLD, but prints and greeting cards are available HERE.

Farm Landscape | Daily Painting | Mountain Landscape | Valley View by Carol Schiff | 16x20x1.5" Oil

Being in the valley, our mornings in the mountains are often cool and covered with smoke (as in Smoky Mountains).  Often by mid-morning the sun burns it off.

This landscape is a nearby farm, one we pass each day.  Sometimes there are cows in the pasture or Canadian Geese in the ponds, but it ALWAYS catches my eye.

On this day, the sun was breaking through and the fields were glowing with hay.

Painting on Sale | Flower Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | African Violets by Carol Schiff | 6x8" still life

It is always fun to pick my weekly painting on sale, here on my blog.  This week I was thinking flowers, so I decided to offer this little African Violet painting.

Purchase here
95. with 25. rebate

I love the purples, pinks and blues and yes, even the blue greens, in this daily painting.  All my favorite colors!

This is how it works:

Purchase at the link above and you will be charged $94.95 and shipping. You must write ART SALE on the order to receive the discount.  As soon as I receive your payment, I will return a credit of $25.00 to your credit card or PayPal account.

This sale is only for readers of my blog, so if you don't write ART SALE on the order, I won't know you saw it here and you won't get a rebate.

Tip for artists:  Instead of purchasing art books, I purchase paintings from my favorite artists.  I find it much more helpful for me to study technique and brushwork from an actual example instead of a book.  I have the added benefit of owning original artwork which I enjoy daily in my home.

Hope you like my bargain of the day!  This offer expires Friday, Oct. 17th at 12:01 a.m.

abstract expressionist painting, contemporary art, daily painting, small abstract art, small oil painting,

I was feeling the need to get abstract again and wanted to experiment with some gold leaf I had in my bag of tricks.

Purchase here
SOLD

I have to say I had lots of fun with this piece.  I wanted to keep the colors fairly neutral....black, white, gray, rust.  I had a piece of watercolor paper that had already been treated with a rusting technique, so the plan was to let some of that background show through.  I also wanted to incorporate that gold leaf.  I worked with a palette knife to get plenty of texture.  All in all, I had a great time!  Kind of like making mud patties when you were six....that same feeling. :)

Help me out....Pin It!

A Color Symphony is an oil painting done in the palette knife technique. This is a tropical sunset of a different sort. Have I gone from the sublime to the ridiculous?

Daily Painting, Shell Still Life, "Queen Conch" by Carol Schiff, 8x10" Oil SOLD

I found this Queen Conch shell on the beach during a trip to the Abaco Islands.  The Abaco Islands are a small, but beautiful chain of quaint islands off the shore of Florida.  Easy to travel to and with all beautiful unspoiled beaches, great fishing and diving and just plain relaxing.  They are not on the tourist route, which is an added bonus.

SOLD

I placed it in an east facing window one morning, and got a remarkable glow as the sun shone through the shell.  It seemed to be on fire and I tried to capture that beauty here.

Maybe not quite as nice as a trip to the islands, but a close second!   Every time I see it, I can feel sand between my toes.

Daily Painting, "Atlantic Seascape", 8x10" SOLD

Who does not love the sea? The beach is a place of healing and joy. The salt cleanses us and the sun embraces us in its warmth. The ocean heals the heart, mind, and soul.

I have two loves, the sea and the mountains.  They both have their own beauty and are ever changing.  They both bring peace to my life.

I hope you find your own little slice of heaven this weekend.
