What I love about painting flowers is the amount of abstract freedom you can take with them. Good thing for me, right? My family will still look at some of my work and say - 'what is it?'; but after a number of years heading in this direction, I'm confident that all will be well, despite the lack of realism in my work. It's an irony to many that a 20 year career in medical illustration doesn't maintain a stronger hold on my painting. There is at least one telling common thread - my love of alizaron crimson. Can't seem to shake it, though I'm warming up to the idea of trying sepia tones more as a grounding element to balance things out some.
