Why yes - we are indeed still smack dab in the middle of 'the hottest central Florida summer on record'. And the dog days haven't even arrived yet! So I thought it would be fun to have a little imaginary respite from it all with this autumn scene. If you can sense the air temperature from the colors I've used, you know that it's still actually on the warmish side; maybe Indian summer? I haven't posted over the last few days but I have been working each day on some garden paintings. I had gotten so caught up in the mini paintings that it was time to stretch out a bit again. They are in their very final icing on the cake stage and I'll post them when they're done. Back to this painting - I had lots of paint left on my palette from the garden scenes and had it on my mind that I wanted to fiddle around with very oily, wet into wet paint. Love the transparency of alizarin crimson - LOVE it! I use it in almost all my work, but usually it's mixed with something else. My goal was to indulge my wild and crazy side and just paint on gut reaction to each successive stroke and color I put down. I really like this piece, which is typically the case with work that comes from the heart.
