"Pounding Mill Overlook" by Sally Shisler $75

"Pounding Mill Overlook"(4x4")-201061 $75
It was quite late in the day when I took the photo of this painting, and I'm not yet sold on how it's translating here. Regardless, this breathtaking little corner of our world is occupied each year by way more people than I can even venture a guess at. Conveniently located right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, you can take in the beauty right from the comfort of your very own car! What surprised me is how little there is of guard rails and other safety what-nots to keep the curiously overwhelmed folks (like my husband & I) safe from an early meeting with our maker. Alas - this wouldn't be a bad place to have that meeting. This painting was done on Claussen's #66 landscape oil panel. I'm still messing around with which surface I like the best. This one is quite slick, and requires much more delicate knife to surface contact for best paint application. I have to be pretty decisive in planning the next stroke because I don't want to have to noodle it after it's placed. Pock and pucker marks are bound to appear if you have to get into the noodle. And I soooo can't stand them. It's a pet peeve of mine.
